Mechanical Engineering

Association & Activities

The Mechanical Engineering association (Macquinal) is active since 2008. The objective of forming such an association was to organize various technical and non technical programs for the students. Students have organized a number of programs under Macquinal banner.

Academic year 2016 – 17

MoU with DAIKIN Air –Conditioning India Pvt Ltd

To improve the employability of our mechanical engineering students we collaborated with the Air-conditioning giant Daikin Air-conditioning India Pvt Ltd (DAIPL). As part of the collaboration an MoU was signed by both parties on 26/04/17. The objective of this MoU is to provide training for our selected students in their training centre in Neemrana , Rajasthan. Daikin will also consider bright students from our department for recruitment.

Macquinal Activation

The Macquinal activation was done on 17/08/2016 by Mr. George Mathew, CEO , Team Sustain, Kochi. He gave a key note address on green energy and importance of sustainability

ISHRAE Students Chapter Inauguration

On 17/8/16 ISHRAE students chapter was inaugurated. Mr. Saji Joseph, Preseident ISHRAE Kochi Chapter inaugurated the chapter. It was followed by a technical talk by Dr. Venkitarman, Scientist,  ISRO.

Technical Talk on Aeronautical Engineering

Mr. V. Unnikrishnan, Regional Director (Engines), DRDO, Bangalore on 28/09/16 conducted a technical talk on basics of aeronautical engineering.

Technical Talk on NDT

On 6/3/17 a technical talk on Non –Destructive Testing was conducted by Collimers Pvt Ltd.

Faculty Development Program

 A One week Faculty Development program was organised by the association on “Finite Element Method” from 21/6/16. Dr. Rajesh Nair, Assistant Professor, Ship Technology, CUSAT took a session on Solid Mechanics and Mr. Nidheesh P, Assistant Professor explained fundamentals of fluid mechanics.

Dr. Jayadas N H, Professor, School of Engineering, CUSAT  took a session on MATLAB Programming. CAD Centre  conducted a workshop on CAD drawing & drafting softwares as part of this FDP.

Faculty Development Program 18-23 Nov 2016

One week FDP on “Role of Mechanical Engineers in Manufacturing sector” was organized from 18/11/16 to 23/11/16. The following sessions were carried out on this course.

  • Foundry Technologies – Mr. Mathew Issac, CEO, Prism Castings, Coimbatore
  • Role & relevance of maintenance for sustenance of industry – Mr. Babu Jose, AGM, FACT
  • Latest Trends in Automobile Engineering & Value Engineering- Mr. Arjun Raj, Deputy Manager, R & D, Mahindra & Mahindra, Chennai)

As part of this FDP industrial visits were arranged in HNL, Kottayam and HMT machine Tools, Kalamasserry.

Technical Talk on Marine Engineering

On 4/10/16 Mr. Rajesh M, Chief Engineer, Merchant Navy delivered a technical talk on “Role of Marine Engineers on board”. As part of his session he covered aspects regarding shipping design, different equipments in ships, propellers used and about dynamic positioning system.
