Implications of NBA Accreditation
Accreditation is a process of quality assurance and improvement, whereby a programme in an approved Institution is critically appraised to verify that the programme continues to meet and/or exceed the Norms and Standards prescribed by the regulator from time to time. It is a recognition which indicates that a programme fulfills desired standards.
Accreditation serves to inform
- Parents and prospective students that a programme has met minimum standards.
- Employers that graduates are prepared to begin professional practice.
- Faculty, deans and administrators of a programme’s strengths and weaknesses and of ways to improve the programme.
- The public that graduates are aware of societal considerations and ethical practices.
NBA Accreditation provides assurance about programme quality to all stake holders: Students, Parents, Industry and Employers, Government, Society, Management, Faculty
The various aspects looked into while accrediting a programme include
- Infrastructure: Buildings and Facilities
- Faculty: Teaching Learning
- Industry Interaction: Brand
- Employability: Placement record
- What students can do after graduating (Outcome Based Education – OBE)
- Whether the institute provides all that is necessary for a confident engineer of tomorrow
Globalization has brought in a clear shift from education as transmission of expert knowledge to education as building learner competencies including learning to learn and life-long learning. That means focus will have to be on understanding fundamentals very well, and learning new skills/competencies that would enable individuals to cope with the demands of the rapidly changing workplace. Hence the institute has to prepare global engineers who will have to solve problems and shoulder challenges which are not even known today. NBA Accreditation means the institute meets the expectations of the stakeholders in this respect.
