ENCON CLUB

ENCON club is purely a voluntary non-profit group activity aimed at practicing energy conservation and environment protection. This gives a platform for the members to acquire, process and share knowledge on the subject. Kochi refinery started ECON clubs in the year 2002 with the ambitious aim of associating with the younger generation in protection and preserving the environment.

The main objective of this ENCON club is to drive home the energy conservation and environment protection in the minds of students, by planning and organizing regular activities. Talks, seminars, workshops, exhibition and other awareness programs are undertaken by these clubs every year to spread the message of energy conservation and environment protection. This way we wish to create a strong network environment conscious people who would pass on the tradition to generation next. At present there are about 50 BPCL Kochi refinery sponsored ENCON clubs in educational institution across the state of Kerala.

ENCON CLUB ACTIVITIES 2020

EEE department hosted the activation of the ENCON club for the year 2020 on 28th January 2020. Dr. P. Shaiju (Asst. Prof. Centre for Science in Society, CUSAT) inaugurated the function.  Mr. Kabeer B. Haroon (President – Operations, GJ Ecopower Pvt. Ltd) gave a talk on “Save Water, Save Life”.

On 28th and 29th January 2020 Toc H ENCON Club in association with BPLC Kochi, conducted ENCON Fest 2020 bearing the theme “Save Water, Save Life” to emphasize the importance of water for the planet earth. Events such as Photography contest, Recycled Product Contest, PPT Presentation, Treasure Hunt, Elocution, Collage Making, Painting, and Quiz Competition were conducted as part of the contest.

INAUGURATION OF ENCON CLUB

ENCON CLUB was inaugurated in TIST on October 3, 2015. On this occasion Mr.  Unnikrishnan, DFO, BPCL, Kochi Refineries, gave a talk on “Nakshathra Vanam ” .

Following are the programmes organized under ENCON club in the year 2015.

  1. PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

The Photography contest was conducted and a total of 11 candidates from different departments participated in the program. The candidates were asked to submit photos reflecting the theme “Pollution is not the solution”. Derick Denis from Safety and Fire Department and Amaljith P. M. from Electrical and Electronics Department won the first and second prizes.

 

  1. QUIZ COMPETITION

A quiz competition was conducted and a Total of 16 groups from different departments participated in the program. Questions were related to animals, river and global warming.

  1. TREASURE HUNT

Treasure hunt competition was held in the afternoon section as part of competitions. Treasure hunt hints and spots were related to energy and environment conservation. 15 groups consisting of 4 members registered and participated in the first level. The program was a grand success and as a result most of the plastics and waste materials were removed by the participants while completing the tasks assigned to them.

  1. POWERPOINT PRESENTATION COMPETITION

A powerpoint presentation competition was conducted on 3rd October 2015 in the MBA hall at Toc-H Institute of Science and Technology as part of ENCON club activities. The theme of the competition was “Lead the scene to keep it green”. The students had to spot an environmental problem in an area and give a presentation based on the causes, effects and the mitigation methods against this problem.

SAKSHAM-2019

An intercollegiate energy quiz, Energy Quest 2019, was conducted as a part of  SAKSHAM 2019, oil and gas conservation mass awareness campaign was  planned for BPCL Kochi Refinery sponsored Encon club members, on 11th  February  2019 at BPCL Kochi Refinery Training Centre, Kundannur Junction, Ernakulam District. Two of our students : Reuben Seinford Santhosh Nair   and Anathakrishnan G of EEE department, participated in the energy quiz. Reuben Seinford Santhosh Nair also participated in intercollegiate encon energy debate competition and won second prize.
