Quality Improvement Programme On “Innovations In Sustainable Waste Management”

Department of Civil Engineering, TIST is organizing a three day QIP on Innovations in Sustainable Waste Management”on 19th, 20th and 21st of July 2018. This programme aims to impart the knowledge of state of Waste Management in India. Sustainable waste management is a goal that all societies must strive to maintain. Currently nearly 80% of global wastes are sent to landfill, with a significant amount lacking proper design or containment. The increased attention to environmental impacts of human activities and the increasing demand for energy and materials have resulted in a new perspective on waste streams. Sustainable techniques involving use of waste streams for energy and materials recovery is becoming more prevalent nowadays. This programme will be a platform to share the experiences between academicians, industry experts, NGOs and researchers to address the challenges in waste management.

Academic Year 2017 – 18

Department of Civil Engineering hosted a one day workshop on Waste Management & Zero Energy-Zero Discharge Buildings in association with Laurie Baker International School of Habitat Studies (LaBISHaS) and Kerala State Nirmithi Kendram (KESNIK), Govt. of Kerala, on 5th January, 2018.

Technical Talk by Er. Chandrakumaran Nair, Executive Director, CIAL on “Cochin International Airport – A success story of Cost Effective Airport and Infrastructure development”

Er. Chandrakumaran Nair started the session by highlighting the features of the new terminal. Cochin International Airport is India’s 1st airport built under public private partnership model and it is 4th largest airport in India in terms of International passengers. Cochin International Airport became the world’s first fully solar powered airport with the inauguration of a dedicated solar plant.  Cochin International Airport has several other features like

  • 7.5 lakh litre capacity sewage treatment plant
  • Wastewater fully utilized for watering the greens and solid waste is used as manure
  • Rainwater Harvesting and Groundwater recharging done simultaneously.
  • Hybrid substation 110KV
  • 6.5 MV capacity canal- top solar power project work awarded to Bosch Ltd. To be completed by Sept.2017

Technical Session and Demonstration of “AUTODESK FUSION 360” by Er. VIju Antony, Managing Director, BIMIT Ltd.

Fusion 360 is a complete parametric CAD tool developed by Autodesk (the editors of AutoCAD). This is a software which has many very useful qualities for project.
This tool is designed to design and design 3D parts as well mechanical designs. A powerful CAM solution is integrated into the tool to drive the CNC. Fusion 360 is free for hobbyists. For the vast majority of needs, this tool is sufficient. It runs on Windows and Mac.
The main features include drawings using laser cutting, 3D printing, CAM, Assembly etc.
