About the Department
The Electrical & Electronics Engineering Department of TIST evolved in the year 2004. The department has highly dedicated and qualified faculty who impart individual attention to the students, prompting them to rise above ordinary levels to face the competitive world. M.Tech programme in Power Electronics under Cochin University of Science & Technology was annexed to the Department on August, 2012. The sanctioned strength of the department is sixty for B.Tech and twenty four for M.Tech. M.Tech Simulation Lab and Project Lab were added to the Department in the year 2012 and 2014 respectively.
Electrical & Electronics Engineering department has sophisticated and well equipped laboratories with modern machinery which encourages the students to undertake projects internally. The department has an infrastructure worth one crore to cater the laboratory requirements as prescribed by the university. EEE Department actively practices and promotes Teaching-Learning processes based on Revised Blooms Taxonomy (RBT), Microplanning, and Creative Learning Process (CLP) to achieve the highest realms of academic excellence. Innovative teaching methods of the Department like Split Class for difficult subjects, remedial classes, tutorial sessions, technical forums, etc., have helped to motivate the students to think from the very basic and conceptual level of knowledge. An Academic Advisory Committee consisting of academicians and external experts from industry guides the Department in the continual improvement of the academic and non-academic matters. The Academic Advisory Committee includes Dr Ashok S., Professor, NIT Calicut, Mr. K.M. Dharesan Unnithan, Director, EMC, Trivandrum, Dr. C.A. Babu, Head, EEE Department, CUSAT, Shri V.N. Panchalai, Scientist, NPOL, Mr Shaji Abraham, Executive Engineer, KSEB, Mr. Asokan T, Chief Electrical Inspector, Ernakulam, and Dr .K Gururajan, Director, TEDA, Coimbatore. The department at present has a strength of 12 Teaching Faculty, and 14 Non-Teaching Staff. Apart from academics, the Department constantly strives to inculcate an awareness and understanding of moral, ethical and professional obligations among the youngsters, to protect human health, human welfare and the environment.
The Department has a centre of excellence in energy conservation and management. An Energy Efficiency Evaluation Lab (E3 Lab) has been set up which focuses on the various power quality issues and its mitigation techniques. The department has played an active role in the energy conservation activities of the institute which helped it to bag the Kerala State Energy Conservation Award 2009 and Commendation Certificate 2011 and 2012. The Energy saving measures commended by Energy Management Centre includes:

- Solar powered computer laboratories and library
- Electric Bike with Regenerative Braking
- Solar powered LED lighting schemes
- Promoting Energy Efficient Research Projects
- Rain Water Harvesting
A Project lab has been set up which displays Micro, Mini and Major Projects of the students. The department participates actively in professional bodies like IEEE, ISTE, NSS, YIE, WIE, Forum for Higher Thinking etc. The alumni of EEE Department, TIST are well-placed in prestigious corporate like TCS, Infosys, Bosch, L&T, etc. and 30% of the alumni are pursuing their M.Tech programmes in reputed institutes. The electrical maintenance work of the institute is managed by the department of EEE. It was the constant efforts of the EEE Department that helped TIST in becoming a remote centre of IIT Bombay. The department successfully brings out its annual newsletter, ‘TECHNOVATE’ which is released during the inauguration of ‘BLITZ’, the association of EEE students.
