Why data security?
In today’s high technology environment, organizations are becoming more and more dependent on their information systems. Data security is a major concern for any organisation. Data security is all about ensuring privacy while protecting corporate and personal data, protecting sensitive information from unauthorized transfer and preventing data losses. It is critical to implement a strategy which will operate to meet the international standards of corporate data security. The public is increasingly concerned about the proper use of information, particularly personal data. The threats to information systems from criminals and terrorists are increasing.
In view of the increasing opportunity in this field, we have introduced the PG course M.Tech Computer Science with specialization in data security. This is an in-depth course on the methods, algorithms, techniques, and tools of data security and cryptography. Our M.Tech students have analyzed security issues in different areas and implemented solutions.
Cryptography is the practice and study of hiding information. With the advent of the computer, the methods used to carry out cryptology have become increasingly complex and its application more widespread.
Modern cryptography follows a strongly scientific approach and intersects the disciplines of mathematics, computer science, and electrical engineering. Applications of cryptography include ATM cards, credit cards, computer passwords, network communications and electronic commerce. As information super-highways are developed, cryptographic techniques are needed for privacy and authentication of digital data. Encryption along with digital signature is important to ensure secure communication.
Our M.Tech course offers extensive open academic research into cryptography – key management protocols, secret-key cryptosystems, public-key cryptosystems and digital signatures. Research interests include the design of cryptographic algorithms, analysis of cryptographic algorithms, design of cryptographic protocols and hardware/software implementations.
What can we do for the society?
With specialization in data security, we can offer secure solutions to vulnerabilities in the fields of banking and e-commerce. Our projects are aimed to meet this regard. Security is a process, much like quality assurance. Security can be woven into the corporate culture of every organization, with due attention to the changing landscape of market advantage, threats, vulnerabilities, risks of damage and extent of damage. With the advent of cloud computing and mobile computing, the importance of data security is gaining more importance.
