M Tech Power Electronics


The M Tech Power Electronics course offered by the EEE department obtained the AICTE approval and CUSAT affiliation.

 

Core Subjects:

 

Power Electronic Circuits, Modern Control Theory, Advanced DSP, Advanced Power Electronic Circuits, Power Quality, FACTS, Power Electronic Drives.

 

Elective Subjects:


Energy Management in Electrical System, Switched Mode Power Convertors, Research Methodology, Digital Control Systems.

Subjects are handled by PhD holders and experienced faculty. Subject experts have been arranged as Guest Faculty. Students are encouraged take up industry as well as research oriented projects. Students are encouraged to take seminars, present and publish papers in conferences and journal publications.

  • Talk on “General Power Scenario of Kerala” by Sri. Santhosh K., Deputy Chief Engineer (Grid), LDC, Kalamassery on 12th August 2015.
  • Talk on “Importance of Literature Review and the  Research Process” by Dr. Sherly K.K., HOD, IT on 1st October 2015.
  • Talk on “Simulation of Shunt Active Filters with MATLAB” by Prof. Preethi Thekkath, Vice Principal & HOD EEE on 2nd May 2016.
  • One day class on “Implementation of Drives using MATLAB Tools” for S4 M.Tech students by Dr. B. Jayanand, Professor, Govt. Engg. College, Trichur on 5th March 2016.

 

 

WORKSHOPS CONDUCTED FOR M.TECH STUDENTS IN 2015-16

  • One day workshop on “Process, Modeling and Simulation” by   Dr. Srinivasan Sundaram, Professor, NIT Trichy on 16th April 2015.

 

  • One day LATEX workshop conducted for M.Tech Power Electronics First semester students (KTU Batch) by Mr. Varun  Krishnan, M.Tech, Power Electronics S3 student.

 

  • One day class on “Research Methodology “ by Dr. Hareesh Ramanathan, HOD, MBA on 6th November 2015.

 

  • 2 day workshop on “Multisim” for M.TECH S2 & S4 students by Mr. Rajasekharan, Application Engineer, National Instruments from 3rd-4th February,2016.
  • 2 day workshop on “Arduino software” for M.Tech S2 & S4 students by Dept. of CSE from 11TH-12th February,2016.

 

 

EXTERNAL WORKSHOPS ATTENDED BY M.TECH STUDENTS IN 2015-16


  • S3 M.Tech PE students attended a 2 DAY “Intensive International Workshop on “Solar Photovoltaic Power Systems for Residential, Commercial And Off-grid applications” organized by Dept. of EEE, Rajagiri School of Engg. & Technology, Kakkanad  from 22nd-23rd July, 2015.
  • S2 M.Tech PE students attended a 2 day  National Workshop on “Electric Power Quality” conducted by IEEE PES Student Chapter, NIT Calicut from 11th -12th March,2016.

 

Industrial Training Attended

  • M.Tech S3 students had undergone two weeks industrial training in BPCL, HNL, FACT.

 

Student/Faculty Achievements

  • Merin Jacob, M.Tech S3 student secured the ‘Best Paper Award’  for her paper “CUK Converter Fed Sensorless Brushless DC Motor Drive”, at Techsynod held at Mohandas Engg. College, Trivandrum
