“To produce globally competent, creative and quality IT professionals by equipping students with solid foundations in basic engineering and programming concepts, project management, finance and research, complex problem analysis and investigation, design and development of their solutions, utilizing the modern tools of the era. To provide conducive environment for the intellectual and emotional growth of the graduates by imparting strong ethical values, for working as an individual or team, leadership abilities, and virtues required to meet the challenges in the ever-changing technological world with a commitment to the progress of the society and environmental sustainability”.

 

 

 About the Department


Information Technology is a blend of Computer Science, Communication Engineering and Management science. Modern economic growth has been ignited by a rapid and persistent upgrading of technology and scientific know- how which has made IT a desire factor of business survival and growth. The department of Information Technology at TIST was established in the year 2002, with the objective to achieve academic excellence in Information security and management through innovation in teaching and faith in human values and enable our students to develop into outstanding professionals by providing an environment conductive to innovation, creativity, team spirit and entrepreneurial leadership. The Department has experienced and committed faculty members specialized in areas of Data security, Software engineering, Computer networks, Data mining etc.

The department has fully fledged and well equipped laboratories with high performance computers inter-connected with high speed intranet having 7Mbps Internet connectivity. Computer labs are functioning with solar energy. To enhance learning process students are given three minor projects (RDBMS, Multimedia and Web based) and a multidisciplinary major project in the eight semesters B.Tech program. To provide functions which support the departmental vision and mission to build center of excellence and promote with latest technologies for the students, department has an academic Advisory Committee comprising of external academic and industry experts.

Operating Systems, Database Management Systems, Microprocessors, Computer Networking, Software Engineering, Computer Graphics, Data Structures & Algorithms, Object Oriented Programming, Internet Programming, System Programming, Distributed Computing, Multimedia Computing, Financial Management & E-Business etc.

 

Teaching Learning Process


The teaching learning process followed in the department is the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy and Creative Learning Process and Micro planning. Students are supplied with FCT (Format for Class Room Teaching) for all subjects prepared by faculty members. To improve academic performance students are supported with mentoring and remedial classes. Also the classes of so called difficult subjects are split into two and conduct parallel sessions, for providing individual attention to the students. To aid advanced teaching methods with the help of multimedia tools like power point, audio and video presentations department has smart class rooms equipped with LCD TV.


Department Library


The Department library has a strong collection of text books with over hundreds of titles on a variety of topics. Library also possesses journals, magazines, project and seminar reports, lab manuals and question banks and CDs of e-journals and e-books. The collection is strong in all aspects with special strengths in Programming basics, Software development, Computer Architecture and Organization, Operating systems, Networking and Data base Administrations and on Internet technologies.

 

Quality Improvement Programs / Industry-Academia Interaction         


The Department organizes training programs on Java, DotNET and LINUX administrations for students to improve their software development skills.  In association with Infosys department is conducting industrial training program “Campus Connect” for all branch students which equips the students to meet the demands of any software industry. Students have institutional life membership with professional bodies such as CSI, IEEE and ISTE. The department is in the forefront for organizing international and national conferences, technical quiz competitions and invited technical talks to learn the latest developments in the rapidly growing field of information technology. We also conduct various workshops such as PC assembling and networking, Oracle etc. and organize industrial visits so that the students can have a tint of the actual industry.

ignIT - The IT Students’ Association of TIST  


The IT department student association ignIT take initiative in organizing seminars and inter-collegiate technical fests regularly to improve and update technical and managerial skills. A newsletter is put up every year including the association activities for providing the students with a quick overview of the cutting-edge technologies in computers and communication.

 

Research Areas:


The department is actively involved in research and development activities. The major departmental research areas are Software Engineering, Data Mining, Cryptography and data security.
