ASME STUDENT CHAPTER
The inauguration of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) student chapter was done on 09/11/2018 by the chief guest Mr.SreenathPolackal (Director,EMI Products, Bengaluru). He delivered a Technical talk on ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING.
Er. C.S Varghese(Secretary, TIST) delivered the presidential Address and Mr. K. K Mathew (Director, TIST), Prof.(Dr.) Preethi Thekkath, Principal, TIST and Prof. (Dr.) Babu John, Vice Principal, and HOD (M.E.) felicitated the gathering. Mr. M.X. Paul Vincent (Treasurer) and Mr. K.A. Simon (Director), were also present for the function.
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a not-for-profit mebership organization that enables collaboration, knowledge-sharing, career-enrichment, and skills development across all engineering disciplines, toward a goal of helping the global engineerig community, develop solutions to benefit lives and livelihoods.
The Macquinal Association
The activation of the association was done on 26/09/2018 by the chief guest Shri. A. P. S. Gandhi (Vice President- Customer Service & Training, DAIPL), explained the career opportunities and growth in the air conditioning field.
Mr. Janardhanan (President, ISHRAE, Kochi Chapter), along with Mr. Saji Joseph, (Former President ISHRAE, Kochi chapter), inaugurated ISHARE student chapter of TIST. This forum will provide training and job function in the HVAC field for the students.
Mr. Shyam Sharma (Divisional Manager, DAIPL), explained about facilities and training programs at DAIKIN Centre of Excellence Toc H, Arakunnam.
Dr. Alex Mathew (President, TIST), Dr. K. Varghese(Founder, Director & Manager, TIST), Er. C.S Varghese(Secretary, TIST) and Mr. M.X Paul Vincent (Treasurer, TIST), felicitated the gathering.
Principal Prof.(Dr.) Preethi Thekkath explained the importance of industry interactions and exchange of knowledge.
Prof. (Dr.) Babu John, Vice Principal, and HOD (M.E.) welcomed the guests.
Academic year 2017 – 18
The Mechanical Engineering association (Macquinal) has been active since 2008. The objective of forming such an association was to organize various technical and non technical programs for the students. Students have organized a number of programs under Macquinal banner.

Asst. Prof. Jemty Jose. & Asst. Prof. Ritwik A attended 5-day Training conducted by Daikin Air-conditioning India Pvt Ltd (DAIPL) at Neemrana, Rajasthan.

The activation of the association was done on 22/09/2017 by Mr. Kuruvilla George, President, Verdant Telemetry and Antenna Systems, Cochin. His key note address was on Antenna systems & Entrepreneurship. The department Newsletter Yanthrasarani, was also released during the function.

Inauguration of the ISHRAE Students’ Chapter
On 22/9/17, the students’ chapter of ISHRAE was inaugurated by Dr. S V Venkitachalam, Scientist and Head AC & Mechanical, ISRO Satellite Centre, Banglore and Mr. Shilas, Preseident, ISHRAE Kochi Chapter. It was followed by a technical talk by Dr. S V Venkitachalam.

MoU with HMT, Kalamassery
To improve the employability of our students, we collaborated with the HMT Machine Tools, Kalamassery. As part of the collaboration an MoU was signed with both parties on 22/09/17. The objective of this MoU is to provide training for the selected students in their training centre.

On 17/8/16 the ISHRAE students’ chapter was inaugurated by Mr. Saji Joseph, Preseident ISHRAE Kochi Chapter. It was followed by a technical talk by Dr. Venkitaraman, Scientist, ISRO.

Mr. S V Venkatachalam, Scientist F, ISRO, Bangalore, gave a technical talk on Refrigeration & Air conditioning on 17/08/2016 for S1, S3 Mechanical Engineering students and the faculty.
MoU with DAIKIN Air –Conditioning India Pvt Ltd
We collaborated with the Air-conditioning giant Daikin Air-conditioning India Pvt Ltd (DAIPL) and as part of the collaboration an MoU was signed by both parties on 26/04/17. The objective of this MoU is to provide training for the selected students in their training centre in Neemrana , Rajasthan. Daikin will also consider the bright students of our department for recruitment.

Mr. Jose J Pulikunnel, Mr. Jithin Thampy, Mr. Sachin Mathew and Mr. Prince John Joseph of semester six, mechanical engineering, underwent a training for six weeks, from 15/05/17 to 23/06/17 at Neemrana, Rajasthan

The Aero modeling club conducted an intra-departmental ‘Glider Building & Flying’ competition for the students of the department.

An inter-departmental quiz contest was conducted within the college in GK, Current affairs & Technical rounds.
Placement drive, June 6th 2017
A placement drive was conducted for students, by STJ ENGINEERS, to select students from the department to join the organization and work in the field of CNC programming.

Macquinal Activities for the year 2015-16
Smt. K.T. Mariamma, General Manager, FACT Engineering & Design Organization (FEDO), inaugurated the Macquinal activities, for the academic year 2015-16 on 8th August, 2015. Dr. K. Varghese and Er. C.S. Varghese were present on the occasion. The annual newsletter Yantrasarani 2015 was released on this occasion by Dr. K. Varghese and handed over to Smt. K. T. Mariamma. Her keynote address was on Piping Design Opportunities.
The students also organized a photo and book exhibition of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on this day, to pay their respects to the great visionary leader
Inauguration of the IIWT Students’ Chapter
The TIST Chapter of the Indian Institute of Welding Technology, was inaugurated on the same day. Mr. Jose P Philip, Chairman, IIW Kochi branch inaugurated the chapter. He gave a technical note on Quality of welding joints, necessity of attaining quality and welding quality checking techniques. This is the first student chapter in Kerala
TIST-KITCO Employability Enhancement Program
Due to the lack of availability of skilled force, the industries’ find it hard to meet their expectations and grow further. The employability index of engineering students has been declining significantly in the recent times. Taking this into account, the department, together with the IIPC (Industry Institution Partnership Cell) wing of TIST, partnered with KITCO to launch a tailor-made course for the students, to enhance their employability.
This course concentrated more on the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air –Conditioning) module of MEP. The duration of the course was 45 days and the course fee was Rs. 25000. A total of 26 students participated in this program. It was designed with both theory and practical sessions.
The course included basic fundamental theory sessions handled by our own faculty. There were also sessions handled by eminent personalities from various industries. As part of the practical sessions, the students were sent in groups to major KITCO work sites such as Kannur International Airport Ltd. (KIAL), Cochin International Airport Ltd. (CIAL), Meat Products of India, Koothatukulam and Oushadi plant, Thrissur. As part of the completion of the program the students had to complete a project which was evaluated by the KITCO team.

Faculty Development Program
A one week FDP was organized by the Maquinal association on “Finite Element Method” from 23/5/16 – 27/5/16. Dr. Rajesh P Nair, Assistant Professor, Ship Technology, CUSAT took a session on Solid Mechanics and Mr. Nidheesh P, Assistant Professor, TIST, explained the fundamentals of CFD.
Dr. Jayadas N H, Professor, School of Engineering, CUSAT took a session on MATLAB Programming. As part of this FDP, the CAD Centre conducted a workshop on CAD drawing & drafting software.
Technical Talk by ‘The Hindu’
In association with the Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad, a talk was organized by ‘The Hindu’, for the students of the department on 16th October, 2015
Technical Talk by the GATE Forum
A discussion was carried out on how to prepare for the GATE exam by the GATE forum on 10th May, 2015 for the students of semester VII. They also gave an insight to the different courses and possibilities available for those who qualify for the GATE exam
Technopreneur Model June 3rd 2016
Aman Aji Paul of S3ME-A received the Best Technopreneur award for a team event organized at Infopark, Kochi.
Talk on Road Safety, Feb 3 rd 2016
An awareness program on Road safety was conducted for the students, in which the Joint RTO Adarsh Kumar gave a talk on the important issues.

SOCIAL OUTREACH PROGRAM (SOP)
The Staff and students of the dept, visited several schools and conducted classes and competitions as part of the outreach program, where the school students were given different facets of science and technology. Certain schools in the vicinity of the Institute had also sent their students to the various departments to gain awareness about Engineering Education, and this included, visits to labs and interaction with staff
