The laboratories/workshops are fully equipped with complete set of latest equipments/machines, tools and instruments, which caters to the need of the undergraduate and post graduate students. All laboratories have experienced technical staff from industry. The various labs and workshops encompass the vital aspects of Mechanical Engineering.

Hands on experience for the young enthusiastic minds with the IC Engine
Lab 1: MECHANICAL ENGINEERING WORKSHOP
To familiarize the students with the basic manufacturing processes and to study the various tools and equipments used, hands-on training is given in different sections. Essentially students are exposed to basic workshop activities such as fitting, carpentry, sheet metal, smithy, casting and welding processes

Lab 2: COMPUTER AIDED MACHINE DRAWING LAB (CAD LAB)
Mechanical Department has well equipped CAD Lab facility to cater the modeling, designing and testing needs. The lab introduces students to the basics and standards of engineering drawing related to machines and components. It teaches students technical skills regarding assembly, production and part drawings. It also familiarizes students with various limits, fits and tolerances and helps them gain knowledge about standard CAD packages on modeling and drafting. This lab is equipped with 31 computer terminals and has AUTO CAD, UG Nx, and MS Office to satisfy the above needs of the students and faculty.
Lab 3: THERMAL ENGINEERING LABORATORY
In this laboratory, students have the opportunity to study the working principle of IC Engines and conduct the performance tests on IC engines (both SI and CI engines), compressors and blowers. It also has facilities to measure viscosity, flash and fire point and Calorific value of liquid fuels.

Lab 4: MECHANICAL ENGINEERING LAB. (Heat & Mass Transfer and Dynamics Lab)
The students can use this lab to conduct the various heat transfer experiments, practice calibration of thermometer and pressure gauges. They can also perform experiments on dynamics.

Lab 5: FLUID MECHANICS & HYDRAULIC MACHINES LAB
The main objectives of this lab is to demonstrate the applications of theories of basic fluid mechanics and hydraulic machines and to provide a more intuitive and physical understanding of the theory. Mechanical, Civil and Safety Engineering students undergo this lab. The lab is equipped with different flow measuring set-ups such as venturimeter, orifice-plate, pitot tube, rotameter etc.

Lab 6: MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY LAB I
Manufacturing Technology Lab is established to provide an opportunity for the students to practice on various types of tools, manipulate and control various process parameters during machining processes. Students also gain knowledge on the structure, properties, treatment, testing and applications of Steel, Cast Iron and Brass and other metals.

Lab 10: M.Tech COMPUTATIONAL LAB
The Objective of this lab is to provide hands on training on CFD software packages like ANSYS-Fluent, Open FOAM, ICEM-CFD and other numerical analysis software packages like Scilab, Matlab etc. Students develop programming skills in the solution of algebraic, transcendental, ODE & PDE equations and conduct CFD analysis of flow past bluff bodies

Lab 11: M. Tech. THERMAL ENGINEERING LABORATORY
The laboratory facilitates the students to do experimental analysis of fluid flow and heat transfer problems. They can analyze the performance and exhaust emissions of IC engines and do different test in the Variable compression ratio (VCR) engine. Smoke meter and exhaust gas analyzers are available that can be connected to any engine. The students also evaluate the performance of the Vapor compression and Air conditioning units. Test on subsonic wind tunnel helps them to study the pressure distribution around an aerofoil. The laboratory also facilitates students to design his/her own experiment by suitably modifying some of the existing experimental set ups

1: MODEL LAB
This lab is a platform for the students to get a better understanding about different concepts in engineering. This lab houses various shapes and models of Engineering graphics, types of joints, models of turbines, mechanisms, etc. It also help the student understand about the basics of vibration.

2: AREOMODELING LAB
The lab aims to make the students understand about Basic Aerodynamics, Aircraft structures. The students are taught the skills of Radio controlled airplane designing, building and flying. They are also given practice session on flight simulator.

3: PROJECT LAB
The lab demonstrates the working of different machines, mechanisms, systems and softwares. It transfers the ideas and innovations to the subsequent batch students to undertake their final year projects.
1: DAIKIN CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE
Daikin Air-conditioning India Pvt. Ltd. (DAIPL), a 100% subsidiary of Daikin Industries Ltd., Japan – the world’s No. 1 air-conditioning company, as a part of the Skill India Initiative, setup a Air-conditioning / HVAC lab at Toc H institute of science and technology, Kochi. TIST signed a MoU with DAIPL on 26th April for further expanding their expertise on HVAC training. Every year they plan to train the students and faculty in the field of HVAC by associating with Daikin.This initiative will provide a platform to the students to enhance their skills and get access to world class training in Air conditioning. Daikin will share its training resources with TIST and deserving students may be considered for placement opportunities in Daikin or channel partners such as internship, live projects or fixed term employment contracts, etc.
