About the Department
The Department of Applied Psychology and Counselling was inaugurated on 31st May 2010 by Prof.Dr. S. Mohan, Director, National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research (NITTTR), Chennai.
The core objective of the department is to provide counselling services and psychological assistance for students in their academic, behavioral, emotional and social areas . The counsellor provides facilities to achieve the desired change or make the suitable choices .
The Department has a Applied Psychology Laboratory wherein the students and teachers can have the opportunity to participate in laboratory and field based studies related to mental health issues, adolescent development, personality development and emotional intelligence. In the Laboratory we are having psychological tests – Verbal , Non Verbal and Performance Tests , Personality Inventory , Projective techniques, Creativity Tests , Achievement Test , Social Skills test , Intelligence Tests , Emotional Intelligence Tests. In addition to this we are also having Perception , Reaction Time and Sensation measuring Psychological Instruments.
Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy
The Department is also conducting a Post Graduate Diploma programme in Counseling and Psychotherapy .It aims to build a second layer of counselors who will be armed with the fundamental of counselling .This course has been recognized by Indian Academy of Applied Psychology (IAAP) Chennai. The First batch started in August 2013. Altogether six batches have been held. The seventh batch commenced on 2/6/18.
