CSI (Computer Society of India)
Computer Society of India is the pioneer body guiding the Indian IT industry down the right path since 1965. Today the CSI takes pride in being the largest and most professionally managed association of and for IT professionals in India. The mission of the CSI is to facilitate research, knowledge sharing, learning and career enhancement for all categories of IT professionals, while simultaneously inspiring and nurturing new entrants into the industry and helping them to integrate into the IT community. The organisation has grown to an enviable size of 100,000 strong members consisting of professionals with varied backgrounds. It has spread its branches all over the country. Currently having more than 500 student branches and rooted firmly at 73 different locations, CSI has plans of opening many more chapters & activity centers in smaller towns and cities of the country. The idea is to spread the knowledge, and provide opportunities to as many interested as possible.
The CSI student chapter of TIST was established in 2009 under Cochin Chapter (Region VII). The Student Branch (SB) was inaugurated on 30th July 2009 by Mr. Siddhartha Bhattacharya, CEO, Infopark, Cochin. Ms. Elsaba Jacob, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, serves as the student branch co-ordinator (SBC) and provides leadership to the activities. The initial members of the SB comprises of 185 student members and 3 nominees from the faculty. A total of 713 students have been enrolled as CSI members till now. 61 student members were added in 2019.

The student Branch aims to be in close contact with the young minds to enhance their technical and managerial skills and to encourage innovative ideas. Since its inception, the SB actively organizes international and national conferences, inter-collegiate quiz, coding and other competitions, technical exhibitions, motivational talks, expert lectures, short term trainings, technical sessions and workshops.
TIST CSI SB has won the prestigious ‘Best Accredited Student Branch Award’ in Region VII consecutively for the past 7 years (2011-’12, 2012-’13, 2013-’14, 2014-’15, 2015-’16, 2016-’17 and 2017-‘19) for its distinguished contributions towards student excellence and skill development.
Our student members have secured ‘Highest Committed Student Branch Activist Award’ in 2013 (Jibin Jose), 2014 (Anoop K Nayak), 2016 (SiddharthPrajosh) and 2019 (Yadev Jayachandran).
Asst. Prof.Elsaba Jacob, TIST CSI, SBC, has also won the ‘Longest Continuous SBC Award’ in 2014, 2016, 2017 and in 2019 for her significant contributions to the SB activities.
The SB has an executive committee comprising of elected student representatives. Mr.Yadev Jayachandran of 2016-’20 batch serves as Secretary and Mr. Abhay P A of 2016-’20 batch serves as Joint Secretary for the current term.
