About the Department

The B.Tech. program in Robotics and Automation is the first of its kind in the state of Kerala. Given the increasing importance of Robotics and Automation and the thrust given by the Government of India and AICTE, it is felt that an undergraduate program in this area will enhance the technical skills and employability of students in addition to promoting entrepreneurs in this area. Started in 2019 at TIST, B.Tech. – Robotics and Automation Engineering has rapidly gained momentum owing to the increasing demand for Robotics and Automation engineers.

International surveys say that one-third of graduate-level jobs around the world may be replaced by machines and software. As this happens, job titles and tasks performed by engineers are changing. Hence it is important to re-skill our students and prepare them for major upheavals that are affecting the technology sector. Robotics and Automation in conjunction with Artificial Intelligence are listed as one of the most important technologies today. The program adopts an inter-disciplinary approach, combining elements of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Engineering. A program that provides multidisciplinary skills in:

is essential to prepare our graduates for this technology disruption. High-skill workers who work closely with this technology will be in strong demand in the foreseeable future. Once students complete the program, they can target opportunities in various Indian and multi-national companies working with robots, and flexible manufacturing systems in addition to engineering consultancy firms.

All the subjects of this course will be taught by our faculties majored in the areas of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning. The department has robust tie-ups with leading firms in order to provide a platform for students to be exposed to the latest trends in the field of robotics and automation.
