NSS (National Service Scheme)

Year of Beginning : 2011

The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are :

  1. understand the community in which they work
  2. understand themselves in relation to their community
  3. identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving
  4. develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
  5. utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems
  6. develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
  7. gain skills in mobilising community participation
  8. acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes
  9. develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and
  10. practise national integration and social harmony.
Motto:

The Motto of NSS “Not Me But You”, reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students develop appreciation to other person’s point of view and also show consideration to ‘/other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is well doctrined in this motto, which underlines/on the belief that the welfare .of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society on the whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.

2025 -2026

Wheelchair Donation Programme

The NSS Unit 586 of Toc H Institute of Science & Technology successfully organized a Wheelchair Donation Programme on 22nd February 2026 at 10:00 AM at St. George Church Parish Hall, Arakkunnam

Wall of Awareness – Say No to Drugs

 The NSS Unit of Toc H Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) organized a meaningful social awareness activity titled “Wall of Awareness” on 22 February 2026 at Mulanthuruthy Private Bus Stand.

Your Hunger, Someone’s Hope – NSS Fundraising Activity

On 7th February 2026, NSS Unit 586 of Toc H Institute of Science and Technology organized a Snacks Stall as part of Mudra Arts Fest 2026 with the meaningful motto, “Your Hunger = Someone’s Hope.”

HANDING OVER OF COLLECTED PLASTIC TO HARITHA KARMA SENA : 23/1/26

A total of 140 kilograms of plastic waste, collected by NSS volunteers, was handed over to the Haritha Karma Sena representatives for proper segregation and environmentally safe disposal. The handover was carried out following the completion of the plastic collection drive conducted in the Arakkunnam region.

NSS Volunteers Lead a Clean-Up Drive at KSRTC Bus Stand, Ernakulam on 19/10/2025
JEEVADHARA 2025 – A Blood & Stem Cell Donation Drive Organized by NSS Unit No. 586

The NSS Unit  organized a Blood Donation Camp and Voluntary Blood Stem Cell Donation Registration Drive under the title “JEEVADHARA 2025” on October 22, 2025, at Amrutham Hall, TIST, in association with the IMA Blood Bank and DATRI Blood Stem Cell Donors Registry.

Road Cleaning

The National Service Scheme NSS Unit No. 586, in collaboration with the Road Safety Club, organized a “Road Safety and Roadside Cleaning Program” on 23rd September 2025 at Kadaikkavalavu.

2022 -2023

NSS camp 2023 is held at St.George High School Arakunnam, from 21 may 2023 to 27 may 2023
 
Day-1 
All the volunteers arrived at the campsite at 1:00 pm. The volunteers were divided into 5 groups of 8 volunteers. Soon after, rooms were cleaned by all the volunteers. A fun yet informative class by Brahmanayakan Sir was conducted.Sir,is one the best spokesperson who made us realise what being a NSS volunteer truly is! The groups were assigned duties for  the next day and henceforth dispersed after dinner.
 
Day -2
The camp started with an energetic exercise. After a healthy breakfast made by the volunteers everyone started the preparation for the official inaugural function. It was headed by Program Officer Mr.Fabil Varghese and Mr.Stephy James, Asst. HOD Fire & Safety dept. After lunch the campsite was cleaned. Resting time was provided after evening snacks. Cultural programs were conducted and instructions for the next day were laid out. Soon after everyone returned to their own rooms.
 
Day-3
The day started with a morning coffee.Our college principal,Dr.Preethi Thekkath visited our campsite and provided us with great support and encouragement. After the breakfast a hands on BLS training was led by Aster Medicity. After lunch all the volunteers were again divided into groups and all set off to sell the bags made by students of Janey School of special kids. An enlightening session on Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency was held which was led by Mr.Sijo George,Regional Coordinator,NSS. After dinner cultural programs were conducted and groups were assigned duties for the next day.
 
Day-4
The day started with the determination to beautify the premises of the  campsite.After a healthy morning breakfast, all the volunteers set out to make the campsite graceful.An interactive yet informative session by Mr.Varghese Skaria,Placement Officer,TIST. He imparted us with great knowledge about the importance of folk music and our culture. He also set forth some basic guidelines on how to improve our resumes and some career guidance.Cultural programmes were held which were prepared by the volunteers.The day ended after the assignment of duties for the next day.
 
Day-5
The day started with a delicious morning breakfast.After the breakfast all volunteers set out to clean the KSRTC bus stand,Piravom.The troupe was accompanied by Adv.Renuka.After lunch the students resumed their work on beautifying the campsite. A fun filled session was taken, led by Mr.Syed Mohammed and Mr.Vasudev from Musaliar college of engineering,Thiruvananthapuram.After dinner, each group shared their experience and suggestions on the camp. The day ended after the assignment of duties for the next day.

2021 -2022

Self Defense Workshop

A workshop was conducted on “Self Defense Techniques” for the final year girl students and fifth-semester electronics branch students by the Internal Complaint Committee ( ICC) and the Anti Sexual Harassment Cell and Women’s Cell in association with NSS.

The resource person was Mr. Mark Antony who is a K.A.I certified National coach Karate Instructor with II Degree Black Belt. The session was conducted in Ramanujan Hall at 3.00pm on 18/11/21.

Nearly fifty students participated. In the session, the girl students were shown simple techniques through which they could defend themselves in case of any sort of assault. Boys also attended the session so that they could pass on the information to their families and friends.

2018 -2019

In a commendable act of social service, the NSS volunteers of TIST, along with the Kerala Action Force decided to build houses for two poor families in Choornikkara Panchayath. The foundation stone was laid by Pathmashree Dr. Tony Fernandez on 16.11.2018.

TIST NSS Unit conducted deworming campaign on 25/10/2018 and Albendazole tablets distributed and administered to the students in the college. 250 students participated in this campaign

Volunteers of TIST NSS Unit had taken up the relief and rescue operations on war-footing from 16/8/2018 to 1/9/2018 and actively participated in the flood relief activities in critical circumstances. Everyone took part in different activities like collection of materials, packing, loading, visiting relief camps, volunteering etc. The timely coordination kept the volunteers inspired and motivated to extended all possible help to the victims.

TIST NSS Unit conducted 6 Day Survey Camp from 27/08/2018 to 1/9/2018 in collaboration with the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) and NSS Technical Cell at Choornikkara Panchayath aimed at visiting the flood affected areas and taking a survey on the amount of damage. All NSS volunteers along with the Programme Officer, Mr. Fabil Varghese, actively participated in the camp.
