Engineering Your Future with Robotics & Automation

Engineering is getting more diverse than ever with rising opportunities, fetching a stronghold for career advancements. Nevertheless, while the decision is made for a career parabola it becomes cumbersome an effort to get into the nitty-gritty on growth and saturation level of an industry or its status becoming expendable. Every branch of engineering has got its own relevance for molding society. However of late, the top industry scenario defines strategic technology with a high degree of volatility for a broader impact which makes way for Robotics & Automation, Artificial Intelligence driven development, Machine learning and Blockchain to top the latest career-oriented courses.

Further, there exists an ambiguity for the title – Why Robotics and Automation are together like both sides of a coin? The very same question is raised by most of the industrialists i.e. whether to invest in Robotics or Automation? But what makes it a big deal of difference between the two?

For most of us conceptualizing a robot would fabricate a machine emulating human tasks like the popular androids from the ‘Terminator’ film series, ‘Star Wars’ or maybe the famous ‘Chappie’ and last but not the least ‘The Transformers’.

But the type of robots integrated to our day to day affairs are mostly undramatic realistic mechanical devices programmed to perform specific repetitive tasks. They help to reduce human error by offering a higher level of precision, efficiency & consistency.

Automation is a point of contention in many industries right now. It refers to the usage of computer software, machines or any other technology to complete a task intended for a human worker. However, Robotics is a branch of engineering which incorporates multiple disciplines to design, build and program robotic machines. Not all types of automation need robots and not all robots are meant for automation, but there are obvious crossovers between the two.

Field of Robotics had consistent and steady growth for the last couple of years and so is the demand for robotic engineers and those who endorse them is expected to increase by more than 15% over the few years down the line. A number of organizations and industries are expected to take advantage of this growth thus making the future of this discipline even brighter.

The Kerala State Government has already started initiatives to assist this career progress by fostering B.Tech program in Robotics & Automation which was predominantly a Postgraduate program and for pursuing the students had to hinge mainly on top universities abroad.

A graduate who gets qualified in this discipline doors to multifarious work options and the choice can depend on one’s interest, abilities and experience gained in the field. Areas of focus within Robotics and Automation include intelligent automation systems technology, robot maintenance, and even their computer-aided design.

The future of Robotics and Automation is an exciting one with a plethora of scope for advancement in technology and secure employment for times to come.
