Research Labs

Highlights:

  • This Research Lab with facilities like HPLC, UV- Visible spectrophotometer, Flame Photometer, Turbidity & Conductivity meter functions as a central instrumentation facility that is used by all the researchers in TIST.This lab also has a well-equipped Microbiology lab. This lab has been recognized as Commercial B-grade Certification of Pollution Control Board, Govt. Of Kerala.
  • Major B.Tech and M.Tech interdisciplinary projects are carried out in the lab using the facilities here

The Variable Compression Engine upgradation was carried out to enable students and staff to undertake research in the area of Internal Combustion Engines with a focus on studies in the field of Engine combustion. With the addition of CRDI Technology to the fuel system, the combustion can now be mapped using parameters such as main & pilot injection timing, injection quantity and the rail pressure. The above parameters may be varied to analyze their effect on the engine performance as well as emission characteristics.Research can now be conducted with the optimal combination of combustion parameters and thus scientific knowledge may be gained. Such knowledge shall be disseminated by way of research papers to add to the existing domain of knowledge.

MODROB funded machine learning lab is specially designed for research in machine learning-related applications. The lab was set up using the MODROB fund sanctioned by AICTE.

The objective of this laboratory is to identify the innovative research directions in artificial intelligence and machine learning and to understand the current industrial requirements in terms of technical projects. The lab serves as a maker space for students and research members in the department.

Highlights:

The Electric Vehicle (EV) Lab is a dedicated facility for hands-on learning, simulation, testing, and research in electric vehicle technology. It covers key areas including EV powertrains, low-voltage electronics, battery and Battery Management Systems (BMS), EV charging systems, electric motors, motor control, and drivetrain technologies. The lab enables practical experiments and MATLAB-based simulations on motor performance, speed control, regenerative braking, battery management, and integrated EV systems, supporting skill development and research in electric mobility.

Highlights:

The lab is equipped with the Bambu Lab P2S Pro FDM Printer – a professional, enclosed 3D printer built for speed, accuracy, and safety. With print speeds up to 500mm/s, AI-powered LiDAR calibration, automatic bed leveling, and an enclosed chamber with active heating, the P2S Pro delivers consistent, high-quality results for both beginners and advanced users. Students can print functional prototypes and models using a wide range of materials including PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, and TPU. The multi-material AMS lite system also allows for complex, multi-color prints and engineering-grade parts for robotics, mechanical, and product design projects.
