ASCE Student Chapter

American Society of Civil Engineers The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is a professional body founded in 1852 to represent members of the civil engineering profession worldwide. Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, it is the oldest national engineering society in the United States. Its constitution was based on the older Boston Society of Civil Engineers from 1848. ASCE is dedicated to the advancement of the science and profession of civil engineering and the enhancement of human welfare through the activities of society members. Its mission is to provide essential value to members, their careers, partners, and the public; facilitate the advancement of technology; encourage and provide the tools for lifelong learning; promote professionalism and the profession; develop and support civil engineers.

 The first Organiser’s Planning Meeting of the ASCE student chapter (under probation) was held on 26th February 2022. Dr Kishore P (Practitioner Advisor), Dr Vasudev R (Student Chapter Faculty advisor), faculty members of the department and student representatives attended the meeting. In the meeting, the swearing up of member officials of the ASCE Student chapter (under probation) was conducted.

A project was proposed to help Mithram Special School in constructing a new building for their bedridden inmates. Based on that the first meeting with the officials of Mithram special school was held on 10 March 2022 at the Department of Civil Engineering, TIST. Dr Kishore P (Practitioner Advisor), Dr Vasudev R (Student Chapter Faculty advisor), Dr Smitha K.K, Mrs Leelamma N P. (General Secretary, Mithram) and Mrs Aleyamma Mathew(Finance Secretary, Mithram), faculty members of the department and student representatives attended the meeting. Dr Vasudev R, Dr Smitha K K and Asst. Prof. Tellma John explained the details of the plan and its engineering suggestions for preparing the estimate of the work to the authorities. Discussion regarding the initiation and volunteering of the project by the members of the ASCE TIST chapter (under probation) was also conducted and necessary steps are taken by the members.
