About the Department

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, since its inception in 2002, imparts quality education in the field of B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering, keeping in mind, the requirements of the dynamic, innovative and highly global environment of the present era. The department introduced an interdisciplinary PG course, M.Tech Data Science in the year 2020 which is one of the most sought-after courses globally. In 2024, the department further expanded its offerings by introducing M.Tech Data Science for Working Professionals. This new course, approved by AICTE and sanctioned by KTU, caters specifically to the needs of industry professionals who wish to advance their careers by gaining cutting-edge expertise in Data Science. This program would enable learners to be adept in a wide array of skills such as Mathematical Modeling, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Analytics..

The Department has excellent infrastructure facilities with well-equipped computer labs, classrooms, and libraries. We offer a progressive teaching-learning environment through a team of competent and committed faculty members, experienced in both teaching and industry. Many of them are pursuing doctoral programs with their specializations in the areas of data and computer security, computer networks, image processing, data mining, etc. The Department is NBA re-accredited for three years from 2023-24 to 2025 -26.

Our Department maintains MoUs with various organizations like Freston Analytics, ICFOSS, Technolodge, (Kerala’s first rural IT park), CDAC, ICTAK, Oracle Academy, VSB Technical University, Ostrava, Czech Republic, SinergijaUniversity,Singidunum University etc., which help to impart industry standard trainings for our students. We effectively share the facilities and expertise to improve the capabilities for advanced education, skill development and research work. Bridge courses are conducted for necessary courses to strengthen the prerequisites for learning. Conferences, technical sessions and seminars are conducted on a regular basis to provide an insight into current technological developments. Short term trainings, workshops and hands on courses are offered, to make the students competent enough to equip themselves with the highly dynamic needs of the Computer and IT industry. We also strive to instill innovative thinking practices and empathy in the students to create best-in-class computer professionals, providing solutions to the current societal needs. Our students have repeatedly proven their potential by excelling in various national and international level competitions organized by premier organizations like NASA, Blackberry etc. and have secured certifications from foreign universities. Our Department is proud to be the nurturing ground for many young entrepreneurs who have achieved unthinkable positions of success and have inspired our new generations of students. Moreover, our alumni form, the workforce of major IT companies like TCS, Infosys, IBM, Cognizant, HnR block, HP, UST Global, IBS, Wipro, HCL, Accenture, etc.

The Department also takes initiatives to promote Research and Development in the field of Computer Science. Many of our faculty members are pursuing research in advanced areas of computing. The students are encouraged to take part in research activities, participate in project competitions and to publish their work in the national and international conferences, journals etc. Around 20 research papers are published every year by our PG students and faculty. UG, as well as PG projects aim to address social causes

The curriculum is carefully designed by APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University to inculcate in students a solid base in basic engineering subjects & mathematics and advanced practical knowledge in the core areas of Computer Science. Core subjects like Data Structures and Algorithms, Computer Architecture and Organization, Operating Systems, Database Management Systems, Microprocessors, Networking, Compiler Design, System Software, Object Oriented Design and Programming, Artificial Intelligence, Web Technologies, High Performance and Mobile Computing are taught. The syllabus incorporates advanced programming labs like Python, Java, FOSS, design project etc. It also covers add-on courses like Life skills, Design engineering, Business economics and Principles of Management.

M.Tech Computer Science & Engineering (Data Science) (Regular/Working Professionals)

The M.Tech program in Data Sciences offers courses on Foundations of Data Analytics, Data Preprocessing techniques, Machine Learning and Deep Learning, Big Data, Data Visualization, Recommender Systems, Descriptive and Predictive,  along with Industry collaborated labs and projects. On the whole, this Program is committed to produce engineers with excellent creative capabilities and caliber to solve real life problems pertaining to industry requirements and advance their career in the field of Data Science.

Data Scientists are extensively required to analyze large amounts of complex raw and processed information to find patterns that will benefit an organization and help drive strategic business decisions. Business Intelligence Developer is in great demand now days to design and develop strategies to assist business users in quickly finding the information they need to make better business decisions. Data Analysts transform and manipulate large data sets to suit the desired analysis for companies. An analysis by job search platform tells us that most of the data science job listings require applicants to have a postgraduate qualification. This asserts that a post-graduate degree of this kind would cater well to the industries demand of getting quality professionals. Further, it helps those people to do meaningful research in the areas of data science.
