On October 30, 2024, from 7 to 8 PM, the engaging event “Useless Projects: Launchpad to Uselessness” took place, featuring Rohith Ramdas (S7 CSE) as the speaker.Participants delved into the playful and imaginative side of web development, discovering how to transform quirky ideas into “useless” yet highly engaging projects. Rohith shared valuable insights that inspired attendees to embrace creativity, think innovatively, and view web development through a fun and unconventional lens.The session encouraged participants to step outside traditional boundaries, fostering innovation while celebrating the joy of building for the sake of creativity.

Launch of Core.ai: Pioneering AI Innovation

On October 30, 2024, the Department of Computer Science & Engineering proudly launched Core.ai, a student-driven initiative dedicated to shaping the next generation of AI pioneers and driving innovation within Kerala’s AI ecosystem.

Led by B. Pranavkrishna Vadhyar (S7, CSE) with co-leads Deva Nanda Nair (S3, CSE) and Festin Biju (S3, CSE), Core.ai aims to develop collaborative AI projects, promote skill-building and knowledge-sharing, and establish a significant AI presence for the college.

The club’s mission is to position the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at the forefront of AI in Kerala, fostering a culture of innovation and empowering students to make impactful contributions to the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence.

Launch of Code Catalyst: Empowering Aspiring Technologists

On October 30, 2024, the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, TIST, proudly launched Code Catalyst, a vibrant community designed to empower aspiring technologists.Code Catalyst provides a platform for students to learn, collaborate on solving real-world problems, and gain valuable industry insights. The community is committed to building skills, inspiring innovation, and fostering connections within a global network of professionals.With a mission to advance technology through creativity, leadership, and lifelong learning in computer science, Code Catalyst aims to nurture the next generation of innovators and leaders in the tech industry.

Inauguration of CSAT & CSI Activities 2024 -‘25

The inauguration of activities of CSI Student Branch and CSAT – Computer Science and Engineering Association of Toc H for the academic year 2024-’25 was held on 30th  October 2024 by Mr. Vishnu Narayanan B , Head – Talent Development, TCS – Kerala Region. The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Mr. Madhu Cherian, Secretary , Toc H Public School Society. Ms. Rini Sara Markose, Chair, IEEE-CS, Toc H SB, delivered the welcome speech. The report of CSI & CSAT activities for the academic year 2023-‘24 was presented by Dr.Sreela Sreedhar, HOD, CSE. Our chief guest, Mr. Vishnu Narayanan B inaugurated the event and delivered the inaugural address. Prof. Dr. Preethi Thekkath, Principal, TIST felicitated the audience. Then, ‘Excellence Awards’ were presented to faculty members and student members for their outstanding academic and professional achievements. Annual Newsletter ‘Darpan’ was released by the chief guest. The event was attended by the HODs of various departments of TIST, and all the staff and students of CSE Department. Ms. Malavika Narayanan, Secretary ,CSAT, proposed the vote of thanks.

Participation in ICSET 2024: Exploring Advancements in Engineering, Technology, and AI

The International Conclave on Skills, Engineering, and Technology (ICSET) 2024 was held on September 30, 2024, at Adlux Convention Centre, Angamaly, Ernakulam. The event featured a conference on cutting-edge advancements in engineering and technology, followed by an interactive hands-on workshop on Generative AI. The conclave concluded with a thought-provoking panel discussion on Cyber Security and AI. A team of 13 students, accompanied by faculty advisor Dr. Jesna Anver, represented TIST at the event

AI Project Exhibition at Balasangam District Conference 2024

Innovate AI Hackathon

The Department of Computer Science, in collaboration with Udyama 1.0 and the IEEE Computer Society, organized the “Innovate AI” hackathon on September 28, 2024. This dynamic event centered on developing AI-driven personalized learning systems to tailor educational experiences to individual needs.Participants demonstrated exceptional creativity and technical prowess as they collaborated to design innovative solutions. The hackathon cultivated a spirit of innovation, inspiring students to explore the transformative potential of AI in revolutionizing education and shaping the future of personalized learning.

ChayeemPuffsum, Tinkerhub Meetup

On September 27, 2024, the “ChayeemPuffsum” conversation session was organized as part of a TinkerHub meetup, bringing together tech enthusiasts for an engaging discussion on technology, innovation, and personal growth.Hosted by TinkerHub members in a relaxed and informal setting, the session encouraged attendees to share ideas, exchange knowledge, and participate in thought-provoking conversations. The event fostered collaboration, creativity, and meaningful connections among like-minded individuals, contributing to the growth of the local tech and innovation community.

Engineering to Entrepreneurship: Crafting the Innovation Journey

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), conducted a session titled “Engineering to Entrepreneurship: Crafting the Innovation Journey” on September 13, 2024. The event, part of the first-year induction program and alumni interaction series, featured Mr. Jibin Jose, Director of Business Development at CIED Group, Netherlands. He shared invaluable insights into the journey from engineering to entrepreneurship, highlighting the importance of innovation, strategic planning, and business development. His inspiring talk encouraged students to leverage their technical expertise to build successful ventures, embrace challenges, and contribute to sustainable growth through innovation.

Spark Venture – Ignite Innovation Challenge – Award Presentation Ceremony

The Award Presentation Ceremony of the SparkVenture – Ignite Innovation Challenge, a premier student project funding initiative by Toc H Institute of Science and Technology in collaboration with Freston Analytics Private Limited and ProSEED, was held on 9th August 2024 at Toc H Institute of Science and Technology, Arakkunnam. This highly anticipated event marked the successful conclusion of a thrilling six-month contest cycle, during which talented students from engineering colleges across Kerala presented their innovative project and startup ideas. After rigorous rounds of evaluations, the most promising proposals were awarded grants to help turn their ideas into reality. The top honors went to Mangalam College of Engineering, Kottayam, for their project “AR Learning Aid for Dyslexic Users,” which secured the first place with a grant of ₹1 lakh. The second place and ₹75,000 were awarded to Toc H Institute of Science and Technology, Kochi, for their “First Aid Pro” project, while the third place and ₹50,000 went to Saintgits College of Engineering, Kottayam, for “AirSecureX: An AirDraw Authentication.” The event was a true celebration of innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship, with all participants demonstrating exceptional technical prowess and a remarkable ability to transform ideas into impactful solutions.

AICTE VAANI Sponsored Workshop on Smart Manufacturing and IoT at Toc H

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Toc H Institute of Science and Technology, Arakkunnam, Kochi, proudly hosted the AICTE VAANI Sponsored Workshop on Smart Manufacturing and IoT from July 10-12, 2024. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. M V Judy, Professor at CUSAT, who delivered an insightful session on “Demystifying the Convergence of IoT and Industry 4.0.”

The workshop emphasized the transformative role of IoT in advancing Manufacturing and Industry 4.0. It showcased how IoT enables real-time data collection, enhances product quality, and fosters connectivity within smart factories. Participants explored predictive maintenance and the integration of IoT for proactive issue resolution. The event, conducted in Malayalam, catered to academicians, researchers, and professionals, offering a robust foundation for enhancing IoT education.

Hands-on sessions included “Integrating Web App Development in Smart Manufacturing” by Dr. Shailesh Sivan and “Digital Transformation in Manufacturing: Android App Development” by Ms. Neethu A S. Teqard Labs Pvt. Ltd. provided sessions on IoT sensor integration and smart agriculture systems. The final day featured data visualization techniques with Tableau and Kibana, concluding with a presentation on “Industry 4.0 Use Cases in Smart Manufacturing” by Mr. Sandeep Sreekumar, highlighting key industry advancements.

Recompile 2024

On May 25, 2024, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Toc H Institute of Science and Technology hosted the Alumni Meet Recompile 2024. This special event was a great success, fostering connections among graduates and celebrating their achievements.

Asst. Prof. Elsaba Jacob opened the event with a heartfelt welcome address, setting a positive and engaging tone. Dr. Sreela Sreedhar, Head of the Department, along with other faculty members, addressed the alumni, sharing reflections on the department’s progress and the invaluable contributions of its graduates.

The meet offered a valuable opportunity for alumni to reconnect, network, and explore collaborative opportunities. Empowering Innovators: Reflections on CAPSTONE 2024

IEEE CS SB Toc H and IIC Toc H, in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, are thrilled to announce the resounding success of “CAPSTONE 2024.” Held on May 8, 2024, this event served as a platform for our enthusiastic young graduates to present their groundbreaking projects across various technological domains.

The atmosphere was electric as attendees witnessed an impressive display of innovation and creativity. From AI and machine learning to blockchain and cybersecurity, each project showcased the dedication and expertise of our graduates in pushing the boundaries of technological advancement.

“CAPSTONE 2024” not only highlighted the ingenuity of our students but also fostered collaboration and inspiration within the tech community. Exploring Sustainable Energy: Toc H CSE Students Visit Pallivasal Hydroelectric Project

On March 27, 2024, Toc H CSE Semester 4 B batch, comprising 50 students, embarked on an educational trip to the Pallivasal Hydroelectric Project. Accompanied by faculty members Mr. Sharath P Raju and Adv. Renuka M R, the group explored Kerala’s first hydroelectric project situated near Munnar town.

Owned by the Kerala State Electricity Board, Pallivasal harnesses the Mudirapuzha river’s power through 2 reservoirs, 2 dams, and a power house. Divided into groups, students received guided tours from officials, gaining insights into turbine operations and the plant’s mechanisms, including a visit to both old and new control stations.

This immersive experience deepened students understanding of sustainable energy practices, bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, and fostering appreciation for environmentally friendly power generation methods

Toc H CSE Semester 2 Students Visit TinkerSpace for Hands-On Tech Experience

Toc H CSE Semester 2 Batch A & B students (2023-’27 batch) had an enlightening visit to TinkerSpace on March 22 and 23, 2024. Accompanied by faculty members Ms. Cinu Skaria, Ms. Sreeja S, Ms. Philo Sumi, and Ms. Sonu Kuriakose, the students explored a hub of innovation.

TinkerSpace, a project by TinkerHub Foundation, fosters a vibrant tech community focused on innovation, collaboration, and social impact. Offering workshops, hackathons, and meetups, TinkerSpace provides access to cutting-edge technology for all skill levels. Toc H proudly participates as an active cell of the TinkerHub community.

The visit provided hands-on experience with 3D modeling, Virtual Reality, Large Language Models (LLaMa), and more. Students engaged in live demonstrations and explored advanced tech setups, including Arduinos, Raspberry Pi, and various sensors. Special thanks to the TinkerSpace team for this enriching experience!

Exploring ACARR, CUSAT: A Transformative Experience

Our CSE team from Toc H Institute of Science and Technology embarked on a significant journey to ACARR, CUSAT, on March 15, 2024. This visit was instrumental in our observational study and model development in transdisciplinary research. We delved deep into cutting-edge research methodologies and innovative approaches in atmospheric radar research, gaining profound insights into various research opportunities. FOSS TechVenture by ICFOSS: A Transformative Tech Symposium

On March 4, 2024, Toc H Institute of Science and Technology, Kochi, played host to a dynamic tech symposium, FOSS TechVenture by ICFOSS, drawing in students from diverse educational backgrounds. The event, tailored to B.Tech (Circuit Branches – 2nd and 3rd yr), M.Tech, MCA, integrated MCA, and M.Sc. (Computer/Electronics) students across districts like Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Idukki, was a beacon of innovation and knowledge sharing.

Attendees were treated to a series of engaging sessions led by industry experts, offering deep insights into emerging tech domains such as IoT, drones, and cybersecurity. Hands-on workshops provided participants with practical experiences, enriching their understanding and skill sets.

FOSS TechVenture also opened doors to specialized training sessions and a thrilling hackathon, promising incubation prospects for winners. The event underscored the importance of collaboration and learning in driving technological advancement, leaving participants inspired and empowered to shape the future of technology.

TechFoss 2024: Uniting Innovation, Diversity, and Skill

TechFoss 2024 concluded with resounding success, leaving attendees inspired and enlightened. The day was marked by engaging workshops on No Code Tools and Ethical Hacking, equipping participants with valuable knowledge and practical skills. The technical competitions, including Capture the Flag and Binary Bounty, showcased the exceptional talent and ingenuity of participants in the cybersecurity realm.

The Learning Station proved to be a hub of innovation, with attendees exploring and experiencing the latest advancements in technology firsthand. The Game Zone provided a welcome respite, offering attendees a chance to unwind and connect through interactive gaming experiences.

The highlight of the event was the Cultural Extravaganza, which celebrated diversity through captivating performances, music, and dance, creating a vibrant atmosphere of cultural exchange and camaraderie.TechFoss 2024 was a testament to the power of technology to inspire, educate, and unite.

On February 8, 2024, our B.Tech CSE S8 students, accompanied by Assistant Professors Leda Kamal and Sharath P Raju, embarked on a memorable visit to iDatalytics, Kakkanad. This enriching experience provided invaluable practical knowledge and industry exposure to our students. Interacting with professionals enabled them to grasp real-world IT methodologies and employment practices firsthand. 14th International Conference on Bio-Inspired Computing and ICT: A Global Confluence of Innovation

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Toc H Institute of Science and Technology, Kochi, successfully hosted the 14th International Conference on ‘Innovations in Bio-Inspired Computing and Applications’ & 13th World Congress on ‘Information and Communication Technologies’ from December 14-15, 2023.

Dr. Milan Tuba, Head of the Artificial Intelligence Project at Singidunum University, Serbia, inaugurated the conference, emphasizing the significance of Bio-Inspired Computing. Held in collaboration with esteemed partners such as Machine Intelligence Research Labs (USA), Bennet University (Noida), and the Computer Society of India, the conference attracted global experts.

The event, part of the International Joint Conferences 2023 with sessions worldwide, provided a platform for academics and industry professionals to exchange ideas on the latest ICT advancements. Featuring a plenary session by Prof. Milan Tuba on “Application of Bio-inspired Optimization Algorithms to Problems in Artificial Intelligence” and hybrid-mode technical paper presentations, the conference marked a significant stride in advancing research and collaboration in the dynamic field of Bio-Inspired Computing.

The Inaugural Ceremony of CSAT & CSI Activities 2023-’24, held on November 15, 2023, at 10 am, was graced by Mr. Sandeep Sreekumar, Founder and COO of Industry Apps.Recognizing accomplished alumni entrepreneurs from the B.Tech CSE 2006-10 batch, pivotal contributors to Ikin Global, a SectorQube venture, added prestige to the event. Their noteworthy inclusion in Forbes India’s select list of 200 companies with global business potential at the D Globalist Entrepreneur Mobility Summit 2023 was a testament to their entrepreneurial prowess. A momentous occasion celebrating innovation, alumni success, and global recognition.

WOMEN TECHspire

TinkerHub TocH Kochi ignited inspiration at the ‘WOMEN TECHspire’ event on Oct 4, 2023, at Tagore Hall. This impactful initiative emphasized vital hard and soft skills essential in the dynamic engineering landscape. Attendees gained valuable insights into engineering careers and found coding and GitHub basics demystified, fostering accessibility. The exploration of Python added an exciting dimension. Special appreciation to Ananya R, Sona George, and Varsha Shaheen for their pivotal roles in this successful event. Our first-year students embarked on a journey of knowledge with ‘Flight Pulse,’ led by the enthusiastic Mr. Abhinav Prasanth, a second-year Computer Science and Engineering student. Industrial Visit to Cognizant

Toc H Placement Cell and the Institutions Innovation Council (IIC), in collaboration with the Computer Science department, organized a highly beneficial industrial visit to Cognizant, Kochi on May 2, 2023. B.Tech CSE S6 students, accompanied by Asst. Prof. Nimina George and Asst. Prof. Sherine Sebastine, had the privilege of participating in this visit. The experience proved to be invaluable as it allowed the students to enhance their practical knowledge through interactive sessions and provided them with a firsthand understanding of the industry. Through engaging with professionals and observing the real-world IT industry in action, our students gained insights into real-time IT working methods and employment practices.
