Communication Engineering

Association & Activities

The Electronics And Communication Students Technical association ‘ELECSTA’ was formed in 2004.

This association aims at enhancing the technical knowledge of students by conducting various programmes like organizing expert lectures ,workshops, seminars, industrial visits , organize Intra &  inter department technical  competitions  and in bringing out the passion, intelligence and creativity in them for bridging the gap between academics & industry. It
also helps to create the ability to understand and effectively communicate engineering and related concepts, nurture entrepreneurship and leadership qualities to enhance their role in providing service to the society.

A visit was arranged to ACARR ,CUSAT on 21/2/2018,Wednesday for  the  final year students of ECE  Department. The visiting team comprised of  a total of 55 students along with two faculty members. The team reached the centre at around 1:40 pm.  The visit started with an Introductory session by Dr.M.G Manoj,Scientist,ACARR about the Phased Array Antenna System and the key features of the ST RADAR system. Mr.Rajesh Varadarajan, Senior Engineer ,reminded us of the precautions to be followed inside the centre as well on Antenna Floor

We then visited the Antenna Floor, where the phased antenna array with at total of 619 elements was set up set up and is being electronically beamsteered to the desired direction for weather prediction application..The students interacted with the scientists and engineers and got a better understanding about the  technology which is implemented at the Radar Centre and its future Scope. At around 2:30 pm, the Centre had a RadioSonde Launch. A radiosonde is a battery-powered telemetry instrument package carried into the atmosphere usually by a weather balloon that measures various atmospheric parameters like altitude, pressure, temperature, relative humidity, wind (both wind speed and wind direction)and transmits them by radio to a ground receiver. Once the radiosonde is launched the real time conditions of the atmosphere is continuously monitored in the Control Unit. The visit concluded around 3:00 pm.

The visit to the 205MHz ST RADAR Centre thus helped in correlating theoretical knowledge with practical implementation mainly in the field of RADAR Systems, Signal Processing, Image Processing, Microwave Engineering which could be utilized for future research work.
