B.Tech. Programme in Robotics and Automation
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at TIST was started in the year 2002 and its B.Tech. programme in ECE is NBA Accredited for the period 2017-18 to 2019-20. It also runs two M Tech programmes (M Tech in VLSI and Embedded Systems and M Tech in Wireless Technology). In order to leverage its vast teaching experience and cutting edge laboratories, the department of ECE proposes to start a new B.Tech. programme in ROBOTICS AND AUTOMATION. This programme is the first of its kind in the state of Kerala.
Given the increasing importance of Robotics and Automation and the thrust given by the Government of India and AICTE, it is felt that an undergraduate programme in this area will enhance the technical skills and employability of students in addition to promoting entrepreneurs in this area.
International surveys say that one third of graduate level jobs around the world may be replaced by machines and software. As this happens, job titles and tasks performed by engineers are changing. Hence it is important to re skill our students and prepare them for major upheavals that are affecting the technology sector. Robotics and Automation in conjunction with Artificial Intelligence is listed as one of the most important technologies today. A programme that provides multidisciplinary skills in
- Electronics hardware
- Electrical design
- Mechanical design
- Artificial Intelligence
is essential to prepare our graduates for this disruption. High-skill workers who work closely with technology will be in strong demand. Those involved in developing and deploying automation technologies will have many opportunities.
