A Memorandum of Understanding for academic, scientific, and cultural cooperation between the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, and the Toc H Institute of Science and Technology, Kerala,which was initially signed in 2014, was renewed in 2023 for a period of five years. The fruitfulassociation has resulted in seven student exchange programmes, two jointly organised international seminars, and co-hosting the first ever Indo-Sri Lankan research collaboration (ICBI2018)atTISTcampus. The event witnessed the participation of international delegates from countries like New Zealand, China, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan
The first visit which came about during March 2014, witnessed a batch of 52 delegates which includes 40 students and 12 members of the faculty of the Department of Business Administration, the University of Kelaniya visiting Toc H Institute of Science and Technology. During that occasion, both institutions jointly organized an international seminar on “Economic, Cultural and Political Integration beyond boundaries –India and Sri Lanka Perspective”. The seminar which was inaugurated by Mr. Muhammad Haneesh, IAS gave a fresh perspective to the cultural and political scenario of both countries. This was the first ever international student exchange program in this history of Toc H.
To reciprocate to their visit, a delegation of 14 members of the Department of Management Studies along with a management representative of Toc H Institute of Science and Technology visited the University of Kelaniya during November 2014 in order to attend the International Conference hosted by the University of Kelaniya. The conference was very fruitful for the faculty as the entire faculty presented papers and it provided a great opportunity for our students to interact with the delegates and to learn about the shared cultural values both the countries have.
In October 2016, a group of 26 students along with 5 members of the faculty from the Department of Commerce, University of Kelaniya paid a visit to Toc H Institute of Science and Technology. The delegates also took part in the International Seminar organized by the Department of Management Studied, Toc H Institute of Science and Technology on the topic ‘Management of Socio-Economic Paradigm in the developing economies – A South Asian Perspective’. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr Sanjeev Prashar, ProfessorMarketing Area, IIM Raipur; the first technical session was also handled by him wherein he engaged the participants in a vibrant discussion on the changing perspectives of marketing in India. Delegates had a huge take away from the sessions and a programme on Leadership issues in management in the changing scenario was also organized during this visit.
Students of MHRM, University of Kelaniya, comprising of 26 students and 2 faculty members visited Toc H Institute of Science and Technology in February 2017. The delegates participated in Denovo 2K17- the International Management Fest organized by the Department of Management Studies Toc H Institute of Science and Technology. The Kelaniya team won accolades for their performance in each event and they even won the first prize in the HR event. Participating in management fest was a first of experience which they actively partook. The presence of international delegates also amplified the morale of the other participating teams.
A team of nineteen members including students and faculty visited UoK for a six-day student exchange programme. The delegates also participated in the 8th International Conference on Business and Information (ICBI 2017) organized by the Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies, the University of Kelaniya which was held on 17th November 2017.
ICBI2018
The International Conference on Business and Information (ICBI) – 2018 is the first-ever co-host by an institution from India. The MBA department at TIST was fortunate to bag this achievement for the first time in India. The ICBI 2018 was inaugurated by Prof. Dr Sanjeev Prashar of IIM Raipur on November 23, 2018. ICBI 2018 witnessed 20 delegates from Sri Lanka and more than 15 faculty and researchers from India.
