Design and Fabrication of a Manure Shredder

The Department of Mechanical Engineering undertook the design and fabrication of a manure shredder for Mr. Jabcob K. Babu, a dairy farm owner in Perumbavoor. The client provided a motor and shaft assembly with a pulley.

The design process involved a thorough analysis of the breaking force required for effectively shredding dried manure. This led to the development of a custom cutter design compatible with the supplied motor and shaft. Subsequently, the enclosure frame was designed and the entire machine was assembled.

Rigorous testing was conducted, and the shredder demonstrated the ability to achieve the desired particle size for the shredded manure. The client provided valuable feedback on further enhancing the uniformity of particle size and overall efficiency. These suggestions were incorporated into the design to optimize the machine’s performance.

The final testing was successfully carried out, and the manure shredder was handed over to the client on 19th December, 2024. This project showcases the department’s expertise in mechanical design, fabrication, and problem-solving, while also addressing a practical need for a local dairy farm owner.
