The Project Offshore Communication & Tracking System received a funding of Rs 29000/- from from Jilla Panchayath under Seed Support -Local Economic Development Scheme for Innovative Product Development.

OCTS makes use of a variety of cutting-edge technologies to improve fishing safety. The system makes use of GPS to provide accurate location tracking for fishing vessels using latitude and longitude analysis. The fishermen can access their precise location to know the real-time weather reports and avoid unintentional border crossings. The location and the weather reports can be viewed by the fishermen in the display provided in the device. By providing real-time alerts and updates on weather conditions, communication with the mainland and nearby vessels, and potential border risks, OCTS improves the overall safety of fishermen. By establishing two-way communication between the fishing boats and the mainland through a high- frequency radio wave device called Lo-Ra, OCTS enables fishermen to stay in touch and call for help when necessary. Additionally, the system includes SOS communication features, enabling instant distress signals in situations of emergency. By forming a communication network, the fishermen can support and help one another when needed within a limited area with nearby sea vessels. OCTS uses solar energy as its power source because it is environmentally sustainable and cost-effective.
