On November 7th, 2023, in association with IEDC and IIC, 43 students of S4 EE & EL had a remarkable visit to Maker village, the electronic incubator in Kerala, led by Assistant Professors Deepa P L and Kripa Radhakrishnan.

The students of S8 EEE and S8 EL in association with IEDC, TIST, had visited Malabar Extrusion Pvt ltd., on 25th March 2024, which is a fully integrated aluminum extrusion manufacturer based in Cochin, Kerala. The company has an in-house Die and tooling development, casting, extrusion and metal finishing and the various equipments include advanced CNC machines, vacuum heat treatment and PLC systems.

On February 27th, 2024, as a component of VIDHYUTH ’24, an exhibition highlighting Energy Efficiency was held, featuring demonstrations showcasing the power consumption of selected household appliances.

On February 17, 2023, 42 students of S4 EE & EL embarked on an enlightening trip to the KSEB Pallivasal Power Station in Kerala, led by Assistant Professors Kripa Radhakrishnan and Ansar Jamal . The objective of the visit to the Pallivasal Power Station was to gather information on various aspects such as operational efficiency, maintenance protocols, environmental impact, technological advancements, energy production capacity, and any potential challenges or improvements needed in the field of electricity production. During the trip, students gained insights into the process of electricity generation, including the technologies used, such as hydroelectric turbines, and how they convert water flow into electrical energy.

VIDHYUTH’ 2024

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering successfully conducted the Department Tech Fest, VIDHYUTH 2024, organized by the BLITZ Association, on February 27th, 2024. Exploring boundless creativity, students shone in diverse technical and non-technical activities, attracting participants from inter-departments and TIST.

Students of Second Semester Electrical and Electronics and Electrical and Computer Engineering of Toc H Institute of Science and Technology had attended the Electrical Engineering EXPO electric world-2024 by KELCON on 02.03.2024.

AWARENESS SESSION ON ENERGY CONSERVATION

Awareness Talk on ‘Energy Conservation’ by Mangala Devi K T, HOD (I/C) – EEE, Toc H Institute of Science and Technology in association with NSS, Energy Club EEE Dept & IIC, on I5th December 2023. The session aimed to explain the students the importance of Energy Management, simple methods of reducing their energy bill, importance of STAR rated appliances etc. The session helps the students to understand the importance of energy managementand the various methods of energy conservation in their homes.

Students of the department of EEE and EL attended 3 days(3/11/23,7/11/23 and 9/11/23) industrial training on “Introduction to industrial electrical system ” at L&T switchgear training center, Coonoor,Ooty, Nilgiris .The course  provides  an  industrial exposure   to students and faculty of our institute.

Association & Activities 2022-23

INTERNSHIP AT KSEB

In the month of May, 5 students of S6 EEE completed a 5 – day internship at various KSEB Substations. The site was selected as to the ease and convenience of traveling. This internship program provided exposure to the transmission sector of the Kerala State Electricity Board and the methodologies used to supply quality electricity to all consumers adequately and safely at affordable costs. It enriched the knowledge regarding the transmission sector which is the backbone of the power system. It also included the yard visit which offered a deep insight into the operation of the entire substation.

INTERNSHIP AT LEELA ELECTRIC PAMBAKUDA

Our S2 Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EE) and Electrical & Computer Engineering (EL) students attended a 3-day internship at Leela Electric, Pambakuda, during the dates 2nd, 3rd & 4th May 2023 and 8th, 9th & 10th May 2023. A total of 35 students attended the internship which is provided as part of MoU signed by the Department of Electrical and Electronics with Leela Electric, Pambakuda, in the year 2023 to bridge the gap between industry and academics.

VISIT TO KALKITECH

On 8th December 2022Dr.SreelaSreedhar, HoD (CSE), Asst. Prof.Mangala Devi K  T, HoD(I/c, EEE) and Asst. Prof. Mini K R(EEE) visited KALKITECH as a part of the Industry Institute Interaction. Objectives of the Visit were:

  1. To understand the relevance of computers in Electrical Engineering fields, which is the main job area focus of B.Tech in Electrical and Computer Engineering students.
  2. To invite them over to the college for an interaction with our students.
  3. To discuss the creation of MoU for trainings and internship for our students at KALKITECH

Outcomes of the Visit

  1. The TIST team was briefed about the various activities of KALKITECH by a team consisting of Mr.Sushil Cherian, Co-Founder and Vice President – Power Generation, Mr.Johney Varghese, Vice-President, Project Engineering Services, and others.
  2. The TIST team was also taken to the various sections and detailed information was given on the activities.

They had agreed to come over to TIST to meet our students and give them insight into their various solutions that enable digital transformation for Energy & Utilities, Industries, and Enterprises.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO CIAL (COCHIN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT LTD.)

On 25 th November IEEE SB TocH in association with IEEE PES had organised an industrial visit to CIAL as part of IEEE flagship event XOTICA – ’22. Students from S3 (EE – 2021 Adm.) and S5 (EE – 2021 Adm.) along with students from other branches and accompanied by Asst. Prof.Mangala Devi K T (HoD (I/c) EEE Dept.) visited the solar power plant of CIAL. The visit provided the students with an idea on how CIAL utilizes solar energy for powering buildings and parking area of airport.

SKILLDAY AT ST. IGNATIOUS VOCATIONAL HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL, KANJIRAMATTOM

Our S3 EE and EL students Augustus Hayden Antony (EE), Devavani (EE), Amina Neha H (EL), and BhavyaBabu (EL) participated in the SkillDay conducted by IEDC, TIST at St. Ignatious Vocational Higher Secondary School, Kanjiramattom on 30th November 2022. (10 AM to 3 PM)

Two projects were exhibited:
1. Robotic Cot (EL)
2. Electric Power Generation from Hump (EEE)

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO KEL MAMALA

S5 EL and S7 EEE  students along with Asst. Prof Mangala Devi K T, HoD (I/c) EEE Department, and Ms. Sreelegha, Lab Instructor visited Kerala Electrical and Allied Engineering Co. Ltd. (KEL), Mamala on 29th September 2022. A total of 23 students visited KEL Mamala. The visit gave students an insight on construction of different type transformers.  It also gave practical knowledge on how windings are placed and insulation properties of transformers are tested.
