Iftar Get-Together

On account of Eid Mubarak, S6,S4 Students organized an Iftar Get-Together as part of fostering unity and cultural harmony among students. The gathering provided an opportunity for students to come together and share the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan in a friendly and inclusive environment.

The event encouraged interaction among students from different departments, promoting mutual respect, togetherness, and cultural understanding. Participants shared traditional food and experienced the values of compassion, gratitude, and community associated with the occasion.

The programme was successful in strengthening bonds among students and creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere within the campus.

Training Program on Emergency Response – CPR & Basic Life Support Methods

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Toc H Institute of Science and Technology, organized a training program on “Emergency Response – CPR & Basic Life Support Methods” on March 25, 2026, at Ramanujan Hall. The session was conducted from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM with the objective of equipping students with essential life-saving skills. The programme was open to first and second year students and included a hands-on training session to provide practical experience in performing CPR and basic life support techniques. The session was handled by Ayush Thakur, Senior Executive – EHS & Sustainability at Lohum Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi.

The training focused on emergency response techniques, enabling participants to act promptly and effectively during critical situations. It also emphasized the importance of first aid knowledge and quick decision-making in saving lives.

The programme was highly beneficial for the students as it enhanced their awareness and preparedness in handling medical emergencies. The initiative also contributed to earning KTU activity points while promoting safety and responsibility among students.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, initiated a Quiz Competition on Electric Vehicles on March 12, 2026, at the Electrical Workshop, Einstein Block. The competition was designed to provide students with an opportunity to test their knowledge, enhance analytical skills, and promote teamwork in a competitive and educational environment.

The event encouraged active participation through team-based problem solving and discussions related to electric vehicle technologies. It also helped in improving technical awareness and collaborative learning among students.

Additionally, organized a National Science Day Poster Competition in connection with National Science Day, commemorating the discovery of Sir C. V. Raman. The competition invited students from all departments to showcase their creativity by designing posters on science-related topics.

The event provided an excellent platform to integrate creativity with scientific knowledge and encouraged students to explore innovative ideas and concepts.

Participation in KREEPA Green Power Expo 2026

Students from S4 Electrical & Computer Engineering and Electrical & Electronics Engineering of Toc H Institute of Science and Technology actively participated in KREEPA Green Power Expo 2026, held on 23 January 2026 at the Adlux International Convention Centre. The event was organized by the Kerala Renewable Energy Entrepreneurs & Promoters Association (KREEPA).

The expo focused on emerging trends and innovations in renewable energy and sustainable technologies. The visit provided valuable industry insights and enhanced students’ understanding of advancements in the renewable energy sector.

VIDHYUTH’26 – National Level Department Technical Fest         
(A) Technical Talk on Fault Detection and Maintenance in Power Distribution Sector

The Department organized an insightful technical talk as part of the technical fest VIDHYUTH’26. The session titled “Fault Detection and Maintenance in Power Distribution Sector” was delivered by Mr. Shiju Koomullil, Assistant Engineer at the Kerala State Electricity Board, Arakunnam Section. The session was conducted for the students of Technical School, Thuruthikkara, who visited the department as part of the techfest VIDHYUTH’26. His presentation helped students understand the practical aspects of electrical power systems and the importance of efficient maintenance in ensuring an uninterrupted power supply.

(B) K.S.E.B. Power & Innovation Expo for School Students

The Department organized the K.S.E.B. Power & Innovation Expo as a premier event of the technical fest VIDHYUTH’26, held on 27th February 2026, for the students of St.George School, Arakunnam. The expo was centered around the theme “Electrifying the Future” and was conducted in collaboration with the Kerala State Electricity Board..

(C) Technical and Non Technical Events for VIDHYUTH’26

As part of VIDHYUTH 2026, the National Level Tech Fest organized at TIST, several exciting technical events were conducted to promote innovation, creativity, and technical excellence among students.

The fest featured Technical events such as Type Storm, Voltage Volta, Power Play (Technical Quiz), Embedded Workshop & Battle Arena, and Quad Core Challenge.

Featured Non- Technical events such as Cup Clash,  Chess, Movie Quiz, e-Football PES Tournament, Treasure Hunt, Power Lift.

These events provided participants with opportunities to showcase their technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork skills in a competitive and engaging environment. Students from various institutions actively participated in the competitions, making the events vibrant and intellectually stimulating. The winners got exciting cash prizes and KTU activity points. The technical & non technical sessions and competitions successfully encouraged learning, collaboration, and innovation among the participants.

Internship at TATA POWER, Wayanad

A total of 21 students from Toc H Institute of Science and Technology participated in a five-day internship programme (February 3-7, 2026) on Solar Supervisory Training conducted under Tata Power Kerala. The programme was attended by 15 students from S8 Electrical & Computer Engineering (ELE).

The internship provided students with practical exposure to solar power systems, including installation practices, supervision techniques, and maintenance aspects of solar energy projects. The training helped students gain industry-oriented knowledge and insights into the growing field of renewable energy and solar power management.

Three-day industrial training program with Lauritz Knudsen (formerly L&T) Switchgear Training Centre under the active MoU

The Department of  EEE and Department of ELE ) jointly organized a three-day industrial training program titled “LT14 – Introduction to Industrial Electrical Systems” in association with Lauritz Knudsen (formerly L&T) Switchgear Training Centre, Coonoor, under the active Memorandum of Understanding. The program was conducted in hybrid mode, comprising two days of online sessions on 20th and 21st January 2026 followed by an offline hands-on training session on 28th January 2026 (at Coonoor, Ooty). The training was led by Mr. Saravana Kumar, Deputy General Manager – Training, and Mr. Gilfered P. Staline, Manager – Training, with coordination by Asst. Prof. Swapna G. A total of 28 final-year EEE and EL students, along with two faculty members, participated in the program. The sessions covered fundamentals of industrial electrical systems, switchgear, power system protection, and safety practices, while the offline training provided practical exposure to real-time operation of switchgear components and protection devices

Masters Green Energy Expo 2026

9th January 2026, the S6 B.Tech students of EEE and ELE visited MASTERS KERALA RE EXPO 2026 as part of their educational trip. This expo showcased the latest innovations in solar energy and battery technologies. A premier platform for renewable energy products, services, and technologies. During the visit, students had the opportunity to explore product displays, interact with exhibitors, and attend technical demonstrations relevant to engineering and technology fields

GATE AWARENESS PROGRAM

The Department of ELE  organized a GATE Awareness Program on 6 January 2026 at EL020 – S4 Classroom for S4 students of ELE and EEE branches, with a total participation of 39 students (26 from ELE and 13 from EEE). The session was handled by an expert faculty from One’s Coaching Center with the objective of creating awareness about the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and its significance in higher education and career development.

Debate on Environmental Responsibility in Pollution Control

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ELE) jointly organized a debate titled “Is Pollution Control a Shared Responsibility or Primarily a Government Duty?” on 31st December 2025 (Wednesday) at EL020 (S4 Classroom).

The event was conducted for students of S6 ELE & EEE and S4 ELE & EEE, with Asst. Prof. Lakshmi S. Dutt (ELE) and Asst. Prof. Aeliswa Raju (ELE) serving as mentors for the session. The debate provided a platform for students to express diverse viewpoints and engage in constructive discussions on environmental pollution and its control.

The activity significantly enhanced students’ understanding of environmental pollution issues and various control mechanisms. It highlighted the importance of government policies, legislation, and enforcement while also emphasizing that effective pollution control requires collective effort from society at large. The discussion brought attention to the crucial role of engineers in adopting sustainable and eco-friendly technologies.

The debate concluded with a consensus that pollution control is a shared responsibility, wherein the government functions as a regulator and facilitator, and society—including engineers—acts as an active contributor. Overall, the event fostered environmental awareness, ethical responsibility, critical thinking, and teamwork among the participating students.

Christmas Celebration

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering & Electrical and Electronics Engineering  organized a Christmas celebration in a cheerful and festive atmosphere. The program was attended by all faculty members of both EEE and ELE departments. The celebration included sharing of Christmas friend gifts, fostering unity and camaraderie among the faculty members. The event promoted a spirit of togetherness, joy, and mutual bonding within the departments.

Academic Advisory Committee (AAC) – Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ELE)

The Academic Advisory Committee meeting of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ELE) was conducted to review academic activities and obtain expert guidance for continuous improvement on 17-12-2025. The meeting was attended by all faculty members of the ELE department.

The session began with a welcome address by Assoc. Prof. Anjumol C S, followed by a departmental presentation by Asst. Prof. MangalaDevi K T, Head of the Department (ELE), outlining academic performance, curriculum implementation, and departmental initiatives.

The committee members and experts offered valuable suggestions for enhancing teaching–learning processes, industry interaction, and student skill development. The Vision, Mission, PEOs, and PSOs of the department were reviewed and finalized.

The meeting concluded with concluding remarks, and Asst. Prof. Lakshmi S Dutt proposed the Vote of Thanks. The suggestions will be implemented for continuous academic improvement.

Energy Conservation Day – Awareness Session and Lab Activity

In connection with Energy Conservation Day, the Energy Club of the EEE/ELE Departments, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), TIST Arakkunnam, organized an Energy Conservation Awareness Session on 13 December 2025 for 2nd year ELE students.

The awareness session was handled by Ms. Mangala Devi, K.T., Head of the Department, EE/EL who delivered an insightful talk on the importance of energy conservation, efficient energy utilization, and sustainable practices. The session helped create awareness among students about the need for responsible energy consumption in both domestic and industrial applications.

As part of the programme, an Energy Conservation Awareness Lab Session was conducted on 15 December 2025 at the E³ Lab. During the lab session, students performed power and energy measurements of different lighting schemes and carried out a comparative analysis to understand energy efficiency and consumption patterns. The hands-on activity enhanced students’ practical understanding of energy-efficient lighting systems and reinforced the concepts discussed during the awareness session.

Inter-College Quiz Competition on Energy Conservation

Two Students of our ELE S6  ( Sooraj N S and Paulson C) )participated in an Inter-College Quiz Competition on the topic “Energy Conservation for Sustainability”. The event was organized by Institution of Engineers India (IEI), Ernakulam Local Centre, at Aban Hall, IEI Bhavan, Kochi.

The quiz competition aimed to enhance students’ awareness and understanding of energy conservation practices and sustainable energy usage. The event encouraged active participation, critical thinking, and knowledge sharing among engineering students from various colleges.

The programme was conducted on 13 December 2025 as part of the National Energy Conservation Day celebrations. Participation in this event helped students gain valuable insights into the importance of energy efficiency and sustainability in modern engineering practices.

Students – Industrial Visit to APTIV, Cochin

Final-year female students (S6,S8) from EL departments of TOCH Institute of Science and Technology participated in an industrial visit to Aptiv, Cochin, under the “She Builds Mobility” program on10th Dec 2025. The visit provided valuable exposure to electric vehicle components, automotive electronics, and sustainable mobility technologies. The students were accompanied by faculty members ,Assoc. Prof. Anjumol C. S. and Assistant Professor, Ms. Sreekala V. M.,  of the EL department

Staffs’ Day Celebration

The Toc H family came together to celebrate Staffs’ Day on 8th November 2025 with great enthusiasm and joy.From the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the faculty members actively participated and showcased their talents in various events, including dance and fashion shows.

Their vibrant performances added colour to the occasion, and the overall celebration was truly memorable.

L&T LAB VISIT

The L&T Lab, a specialized facility under the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was visited by the Computer Science (CS) and Electronics & Communication (EC) students as part of their academic enrichment program.

During the visit, students were introduced to various industrial-grade equipment, automation components, protection systems, and hands-on demonstrations related to power systems, industrial controls, and smart technologies. The session helped students gain practical exposure and understand real-time applications beyond classroom learning.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering extends its support in offering such interdisciplinary learning opportunities to enhance the technical competence of students across departments.

DEPARTMENT QUALITY ASSURANCE COMMITTEE (DQAC) MEETING

The Department Quality Assurance Committee (DQAC) convened a meeting on 18th November 2025 to review and refine the Vision, Mission, Program Outcomes (PO), Program Specific Outcomes (PSO), and Course Outcomes (CO) as part of the preparation for the upcoming NBA Accreditation process.

The meeting was hosted by HoD, Asst. Prof. Mangala Devi, who guided the discussions and provided key directions. Faculty members actively participated and contributed valuable suggestions, leading to the finalization of the revised versions of the Vision, Mission, PO, PSO, and CO.The session concluded with a clear roadmap for further documentation and implementation in alignment with NBA requirements.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT – MILMA KOCHI

The first-year students of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department visited Milma, Kochi on 20th November 2025 as part of their Industrial Visit.

The visit provided students with valuable exposure to real-time industrial processes, automation practices, and operational workflows within the dairy processing industry. It offered a practical understanding that complements their foundational engineering studies.

The department appreciates the efforts of the faculty coordinators and Milma officials for making this visit informative and enriching for the students.

Real time Practical sessions – CONTENT BEYOND SYLLABUS EXPERIENCE

The first-year EEE & ELE students visited the HT Substation located inside Toc H Institute of Science and Technology. During the visit, they observed the 350 kVA transformer maintenance process in real time on 29th November 2025.

Mr. Radhakrishnan Nair, Senior Technician, KEL Mamala and Asst. Prof. Ansar Jamal, Maintenance Head, ELE Department, explained the components, functioning, and complete maintenance procedures of the transformer.

The maintenance work of the college substation is jointly carried out by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ELE) and the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE). This visit provided a valuable beyond-syllabus learning experience, offering students practical exposure to:

Real-time transformer operation, Transformer maintenance procedures, HT/LT safety practices, Industrial power distribution setups

The activity enabled students to connect classroom concepts with real-world applications, significantly enriching their technical understanding at an early stage.

Faculty Development Program on Deep Learning for Text, Vision, and Emerging Multimodal Systems

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at Toc H Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) successfully organized a six-day online Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Deep Learning for Text, Vision, and Emerging Multimodal Systems” from December 1st to 6th, 2025.

The program was convened by Ms. Mangala Devi K.T., Assistant Professor and Head of the Department &Assoc.Prof. Dr. Jesna Anver. The FDP, held in collaboration with IEEE PES Student Branch and ICFOSS, provided participants with a strong foundation in modern deep learning, covering topics like Transformer models, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), and multimodal image-text techniques.

The inauguration, held on December 1st, 2025, included a Presidential Address by Er. C. S. Varghese, President, Toc H Public School Society, followed by the Inauguration and Keynote Address delivered by Dr. Rajeev R R, Associate Professor &Programme Head, ICFOSS, Trivandrum. The FDP’s rich curriculum, led by resource persons from ICFOSS , prepared faculty, research scholars, and industry professionals to build advanced AI solutions and integrate current trends into academic and research endeavors.

All the faculties of the Electrical and Computer Engineering department attended the FDP and other 85 participants from other colleges attended.

Industrial visit to Red team Hacker Academy, Kochi 

As part of the subject Computer Communication and Network Security, the students of S5 Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Toc H Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) visited the RED Team Hacker Academy, Kochi on 25th October 2025.

The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to real-world applications of communication networks, cybersecurity practices, and emerging technologies in the IT industry.

During the session, experts from the RED Team shared valuable insights on network security, ethical hacking, data protection, and cyber threat management. Students also learned about the tools and techniques used in cybersecurity analysis and real-time threat detection.

The interactive session helped bridge the gap between theory and practice, enhancing students’ understanding of how network security concepts are implemented in professional environments. The visit proved to be highly informative and inspiring, motivating students to explore the evolving field of cybersecurity and communication systems.

The students were accompanied by Asst. Prof. Lakshmi S. Dutt and Asst. Prof. Aeliswa Raju from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. All participants also received certificates of participation from the RED Team.

Library Orientation Program for First-Year B.Tech  Students

A Library Orientation Program was conducted for the first-year B.Tech Electrical and Computer Engineering (ELE)  students at Toc H Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) on 28th October 2025.

The session was led by Mr. Sreekumar N, the Librarian, who provided an overview of the library’s resources, facilities, and digital services. The orientation aimed to familiarize students with the effective use of library resources, research databases, and reference materials to support their academic learning and project work.

The session helped students understand the importance of cultivating good reading and research habits and encouraged them to make the most of the library’s extensive academic resources.

Invited Talk for First Year Parents

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering jointly organized an invited talk for the parents of first-year  students on 24th October 2025 at Tagore Hall, Einstein Block.

The session was led by Dr. Alex Mathew, Director and Former President of the Toc H Public School Society, on the topic “Shifting Family Dynamics and Understanding the Emotional World of Our Children.”

Dr. Alex Mathew shared valuable insights on the evolving nature of family relationships and emphasized the importance of understanding the emotional needs of today’s generation. The interactive talk encouraged parents to build stronger connections with their children through empathy, communication, and emotional awareness.

Motivational Session for First Year Students

On 23rd October 2025, Dr. Alex Mathew, Director and Former President of the Toc H Public School Society, addressed the first-year students of Department of ELE,TIST in an inspiring session. He motivated the students to stay focused on their academic goals and shared valuable insights on maintaining consistency and discipline. Dr. Alex emphasized the importance of avoiding distractions in today’s fast-paced world and encouraged students to develop positive habits that foster personal and professional growth. The interactive session left the students inspired and determined to make the most of their learning journey at TIST.

Industrial visit to KPPL, Velloor

As part of their Industrial Visit , the students of S7 Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Toc H Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) visited Kerala Paper Products Limited (KPPL), Velloor on 18th October 2025. The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to renewable and sustainable energy practices implemented in modern industries. At KPPL, students gained valuable insights into the paper manufacturing process and observed how electrical systems and energy management techniques are integrated to ensure efficient and eco-friendly operations.

Technical experts at the plant explained the use of renewable energy sources, power distribution systems, and automation in the production process. The session also highlighted KPPL’s initiatives toward energy conservation and sustainable industrial practices. The visit offered a hands-on learning experience, enhancing students’ understanding of renewable energy applications in the industrial sector and strengthening the link between academic learning and real-world implementation.

Inauguration of BLITZ Activities 2025–26

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Toc H Institute of Science and Technology inaugurated departmental association BLITZ for the academic year 2025–26 on 17th October 2025 at Tagore Hall.

The event began with an invited talk by Mr. Deepak G. Pillai, Principal Consultant, Infosys, Trivandrum, who shared valuable insights on emerging industry trends and skill development for engineering graduates. 

The formal function commenced at noon with a welcome address by Asst. Prof. Anju Mathew, followed by the presidential address by Mr. Kurian Thomas, Manager, Toc H Public School Society. Ms. Mangaladevi K. T., HoD (ELE), presented a report on BLITZ activities for 2024–25, highlighting the department’s achievements and initiatives.

The inauguration and inaugural address were delivered by Mr. Deepak G. Pillai, who emphasized the importance of innovation, teamwork, and adaptability in the rapidly evolving technological landscape. The function also featured a prize distribution ceremony recognizing outstanding student performances.

Felicitation speeches were delivered by Mr. Madhu Cherian, Secretary, Toc H Public School Society, and Prof. (Dr.) Preethi Thekkath, Principal, TIST. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, and a copy of the Annual Magazine of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, “TECHWAVE,” was presented to the chief guest, marking a successful beginning to a new year of BLITZ activities aimed at fostering technical excellence and collaboration among students.

Training session on IEEE e-resources

An offline training session on IEEE e-resources was organized for B.Tech S7 Electrical and Computer Engineering (ELE) students at the Sarabhai Digital Library on 10th October 2025, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The session was led by Mr. Nandalal T. S., Senior Training Manager (South India), EBSCO Information Services, New Delhi.

The session focused on the effective use of IEEE journals, conference proceedings, and digital resources available through the TIST Library. Participants were introduced to methods for mobile and remote access, and guided on how to efficiently access e-books, research papers, and project reports to support their academic and research activities.

A quiz competition based on IEEE and EBSCO resources was conducted at the end of the session, and prizes for the first, second, and third place winners were distributed by Mr. Sreekumar N., Librarian, TIST.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Sreekumar N. The training proved to be highly informative and engaging, offering valuable insights into maximizing the use of IEEE and EBSCO digital platforms for research and learning. All participants received event participation certificates from EBSCO-IEEE, which can be downloaded from their registered email IDs.

IEEE PES SB TocH – Poster making competition & Quiz competition 

The IEEE PES Student Branch of Toc H Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) in association with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, organized two exciting events — a Quiz Competition and a Poster Making Competition — that brought out the creativity and intellect of the participants.

The Quiz Competition, held at the Electrical Workshop, Einstein Block, tested participants’ knowledge and quick thinking through a series of engaging and challenging questions. Students showcased excellent teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the event.

Simultaneously, the Poster Making Competition on the theme “Sustainable Energy for a Brighter Future” encouraged participants to express their ideas on promoting green energy and sustainability through art and innovation.

Hands-On Learning: Electrical Workshop Introduces IT Students to L&T Switchgear

As part of the curriculum, Electrical Workshop was taken for the S1 IT students by Asst. Prof. Sreekala, from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ELE). The session aimed to provide students with a practical understanding of electrical components and systems, bridging the gap between theoretical learning and real-world applications.

As part of the workshop, the students were given an orientation on L&T switchgear, where they learned about the different types of electrical protection devices, their functions, and industrial applications. The session helped the students gain valuable insights into safety measures, circuit control mechanisms, and the importance of reliable switchgear in electrical systems.

The interactive workshop not only enhanced the students’ technical knowledge but also sparked interest in the fundamentals of electrical engineering concepts relevant to their field. It served as a great initiative to encourage interdisciplinary learning and hands-on exposure among the first-year students of the IT department

“MINDSPRINT – Encouraging Rapid Innovation” – PROJECT EXPO

The Departments of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Electrical & Electronics Engineering of Toc H Institute of Science and Technology (TIST), in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organized a project exhibition titled “MINDSPRINT – Encouraging Rapid Innovation” on 14th October 2025 at 3:00 PM in the Electrical Lab. The event aimed to inspire creativity and technical innovation among students by providing them with a platform to present their project ideas and prototypes that reflect practical learning and conceptual understanding.

The expo witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of S3 and S5 ELE batches, who showcased a diverse range of projects based on electrical, electronic, and computational concepts. Each team presented their working models, explained the underlying principles, and highlighted the real-world applications of their innovations. The event was closely aligned with the academic curriculum — for S3 ELE students, the projects were part of the Digital Electronics course, a Project-Based Learning (PBL) subject, while S5 ELE students developed projects related to their Measurements and Instrumentation Lab.

From S3 ELE, the team comprising Sreehari J, Gervasis Geo K J, Arjun Babu, and Basil Shaji showcased an outstanding project and secured the first prize. In the S5 ELE category, the team of Ciril C Reji, Jeffrey George Juby, Jany S, Fathima Sherin, and Jain Noji also delivered an impressive performance with their innovative project presentation and secured first prize.

The faculty coordinators and judges commended the participants for their originality, technical accuracy, and problem-solving approach. The event fostered a spirit of innovation, teamwork, and hands-on learning among the students, motivating them to think beyond conventional boundaries. MINDSPRINT 2025 successfully reflected TIST’s ongoing commitment to promoting experiential learning, research culture, and technological excellence among budding engineers.

1. Industrial Visit of Faculties to APTIV
Faculty members from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, visited APTIV CONNECTION SYSTEMS INDIA Pvt Ltd, Arakunnam, a global leader in automotive technology solutions, as part of an industrial exposure initiative. The visit provided valuable insights into the latest advancements in vehicle electrification, software-defined architectures, and smart mobility technologies. Interacting with industry professionals, the faculty members gained a deeper understanding of real-world engineering practices, research trends, and manufacturing workflows. This visit aimed to bridge the gap between academia and industry, enhancing the teaching-learning process by aligning academic content with evolving industry demands.
2.  Industrial Visit to ICFOSS
The S7 ELE students participated in an industrial visit to ICFOSS (International Centre for Free and Open Source Software) on 31st July 2025. The visit provided students with valuable exposure to open‑source technologies, their applications, and the scope for innovation in various engineering domains.
3. Industrial Visit to Sengulam Hydroelectric Power Station
An industrial visit was organized for S3 ELE students to the Sengulam Hydroelectric Power Station, Vellathooval, on 2nd August 2025. The visit was aimed at providing students with practical exposure to the generation and distribution aspects of hydroelectric power.
The students were accompanied by Mr. Ansar Jamal and Ms. Aeliswa Raju, Assistant Professors from the ELE Department. The industrial visit to the Sengulam Hydroelectric Power Station provided valuable insights into the practical aspects of power generation using renewable energy. We gained a clear understanding of the working of Pelton turbines, alternators, and the process of converting water potential energy into electrical energy. The interaction with engineers improved our technical knowledge, observation skills, and analytical thinking, while also motivating us to explore future opportunities in the energy and power sector.
4. Bridging Academia and Industry: Talk on Smart Electrical Projects
On August 2, 2025, the Departments of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) and Electrical Engineering (ELE) jointly hosted a talk titled “Smart Electrical Projects for a Successful Professional Journey.” The session featured Mr. Mohamed Aslam, CEO of InQbe Innovations Pvt. Ltd., as the keynote speaker.
A total of 40 students participated in the event, gaining valuable insights into the latest research trends in the field. The talk emphasized how well-chosen projects can significantly influence one’s professional growth. Additionally, Mr. Aslam highlighted the critical importance of clearly defining project objectives to ensure successful outcomes.
5. First Year Induction program
Day 1 of the First-Year Induction Program began on a graceful note with a prayer, followed by an inspiring address from Asst. Prof. Mangala Devi,Head of the Department EEE & ELE, to the EEE and ELE students—ushering in blessings and new beginnings.
As part of the induction program, Dr. Reena Madhu,Associate Professor,Department of Applied Psychology conducted an interactive session titled ‘Speak to Shine’, focusing on the Proficiency Module in English to help students enhance their communication skills.
To guide students in shaping their future, Mr. Varghese Scaria, Placement and Training Officer, conducted a session on “Path to Placement: From Campus to Corporate”, offering valuable insights into career readiness and professional growth
Adding to the day’s learning, Ms. Sreekala, Asst. Prof., ELE, delivered a talk on “Job Opportunities and Higher Studies Pathways”, providing students with valuable awareness about their future prospects.
The day concluded with “Illuminating Ideas – Bright Minds, Bright Lights”, a hands-on LED manufacturing workshop conducted by the Rural Science and Technology Centre, Thuruthikkara, sparking innovation and creativity among students.
Day 2 of the First-Year Induction Program began with an insightful session by Ms. Sreekala, Asst. Prof., ELE, on “Introduction to Electrical Engineering.” The session provided students with a foundational understanding of the field, igniting curiosity and interest as they step into their academic journey.
The day further featured “Alumni Insights – Echoes of Experience”, where proud alumni returned to connect with the new batch. Mr. Venkatesh A., Principal Consultant at Mercedes Benz Research and Development, and Mr. Joshua, EV Engineer at L&T, shared their college experiences and inspired students with practical guidance on choosing a career path, setting goals, and staying motivated to achieve them.
The day also featured a thought-provoking session on “Universal Human Values – Building Character, Building Futures, Foundations for Life” by Asst. Prof. Mangala Devi, HOD, ELE/EEE, highlighting the role of ethics and values in shaping life and career.
Finally, the day concluded with literary activities on socially relevant themes such as social media addiction and drug abuse, encouraging students to express their views and reflect on issues that impact today’s youth.
Day 3 of the First-Year Induction Program began with a college and department visit, giving students an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the campus, facilities, and academic environment
This was followed by an engaging session “Equation to Success – Math Mastery” led by Asst. Prof. Jisha, focusing on building proficiency in mathematics and strengthening problem-solving skills essential for engineering studies.
Day 3 featured a presentation on TinkerHub ’25, highlighting its journey from a small student-led initiative (2014) to a state-wide maker movement. With 617 activities, 4621 active builders across 36 campuses, 12,780 learners, and 2135 completed projects, TinkerHub promotes peer-to-peer, hands-on learning to bridge the skill gap and unemployment challenges.
The session introduced students to maker culture—creating, experimenting, and learning by doing. Interactive games and activities kept students engaged, sparking curiosity and encouraging them to think beyond classrooms. The program concluded by reinforcing TinkerHub’s vision: what you build matters, but who you build it with matters even more.
Day 3 concluded with “Fusion 2025 – The Fresh Connect”, where seniors welcomed the freshers with games and dance performances. The celebration created a lively atmosphere of camaraderie, marking the beginning of a joyful journey for the new batch.
Day 4 of the First-Year Induction Program featured an inspiring session “Seeds of Goodness – Ethics & Essence” by Dr. Fabil Varghese, Asst. Prof., Department of Applied Psychology. Through his talk on values, personality development, and motivation, he encouraged students to nurture positive character traits, build confidence, and embrace ethics as a foundation for personal and professional growth.
This was followed by “Programming Pathways – Think. Code. Create.”, an orientation on Python programming conducted by Asst. Prof. Aeliswa Raju and Asst. Prof. Lakshmi S. Dutt, Assistant Professors, ELE department. The session introduced students to the fundamentals of coding, opening pathways to logical thinking, creativity, and innovation in problem-solving.
As part of the induction program, common sessions were organized to raise awareness on socially relevant topics.
Mr. Adarsh Kumar G. Nair, Joint RTO (Retd.), delivered a session on Traffic Rules and Regulations, emphasizing the importance of safe and responsible road practices.
This was followed by an awareness talk on Anti-Ragging and the Ill-Effects of Substance Abuse by Dr. Rajesh Kocheril (IN Retd.), HOD Mechanical Engineering and Convenor – Anti-Ragging & Anti-Drug Cell. The session highlighted the need to uphold discipline, safety, and a drug-free campus environment.
Day 5
Day 5 of the First-Year Induction Program opened with an entrepreneurial spark. Mr. Sharan Varma, Entrepreneur, delivered an inspiring session on “How to Start Building Startups: In College and After,” organized by IIC.
This was followed by “Startup Sparks – Entrepreneurship Edge”, an engaging entrepreneurship awareness session organized by the IEDC Cell with the support of Mr. Rithwik, Asst. Prof.,Mechanical Engineering. The sessions motivated students to think innovatively and introduced them to the fundamentals of startup culture.
Students also got the chance to visit the Onam Trade Fair organized by the MBA department of TIST, experiencing firsthand the spirit of teamwork, creativity, and business skills.
The day further included “Equation to Success – Math Mastery” by Asst. Prof. Jisha, helping students strengthen their mathematical foundations for engineering problem-solving.
There was an IEEE Orientation Session by Ms. Sreekala V.M, Asst. Prof., ELE, focusing on placement opportunities, career growth, and the benefits of IEEE membership.
To end the day on an energetic note, students engaged in physical activity with a visit to the college ground, where they played football, fostering teamwork, fitness, and camaraderie.
6. 3-Day Internship at IPCS Global
Students from S7 ELE successfully completed a 3-day internship at IPCS Global.
The program offered hands-on training in industrial automation tools including PLC, SCADA, and Drives, giving students practical exposure to real-world applications.
This experience not only strengthened their technical knowledge in Electrical and Computer Engineering but also enhanced their problem-solving skills and industry readiness
7. Expert Talk on Solar Grid Integration
The Energy Cell of TIST organized an expert talk on Solar Grid Integration on September 8, 2025 at Tagore Hall. The session was led by Mr. Antony K. L., Technical Consultant, Sustainize Technologies Pvt. Ltd. He shared valuable insights on the challenges and opportunities in integrating solar power with the existing grid, emphasizing its role in sustainable energy systems. The talk was attended by S5 EEE and ELE students, providing them with practical knowledge that bridges classroom concepts with real-world applications.
8. Orientation Session on the German Academy of Digital Education
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of TIST organized an orientation session on the German Academy of Digital Education on September 11, 2025.The session was led by Mr. Vikram Singh, Consultant,DAAB,who introduced the opportunities offered by the academy for students aspiring to pursue higher studies in Germany after B.Tech. He explained the support and guidance provided by the academy to help students prepare for academic and professional pathways abroad. The program was attended by S3 ELE students, giving them valuable insights into international education prospects and career development.
9.  Industrial Visit to CSIR–NIO, Goa
The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering organized an industrial visit from 10th to 14th September with a total of 26 students. The highlight of the trip was the visit to CSIR–National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa, where students were introduced to advanced research in physical, chemical, and biological oceanography. They observed demonstrations of marine instruments, sampling devices, and oceanographic data collection tools. Interaction with scientists gave valuable insights into the real-world applications of electronics, instrumentation, and computational techniques in marine research. The visit also included stops at Murudeshwar, Dandeli, and cultural exploration in Goa, offering a blend of academic enrichment, industry exposure, and teamwork.
10. Exploring Global Education Pathways: Orientation Session on Higher Studies Opportunities in Germany
The Department of Electrical and computer engineering of TIST organized an orientation session on opportunities offered for higher studies abroad conducted by the German Academy of Digital Education on September 11, 2025 . The session was led by Mr. Vikram Singh, Consultant,DAAB,who introduced the opportunities offered by the academy for students aspiring to pursue higher studies in Germany after B.Tech. He explained the support and guidance provided by the academy to help students prepare for academic and professional pathways abroad. The program was attended by S3 ELE students, giving them valuable insights into international education prospects and career development.
11. Overseas Education Session
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of TIST organized an orientation session for the students S5 & S7 ELE. The session was led by Ms. Sophia Begum, distinguished alumna of the EEE Department TIST, and currently associated with AISLIN INTERNATIONAL, Ernakulam.
During the session, Ms. Sophia Begum shared valuable insights into the opportunities available for pursuing higher studies abroad. She highlighted the application procedures, admission requirements, scholarship options, and career prospects in various countries. She also emphasized the importance of planning ahead, preparing well for international entrance tests, and enhancing technical as well as communication skills to succeed in global academic environments.
The session was highly informative and interactive, enabling students to clarify their doubts regarding overseas education pathways. It also served as a motivation for students to explore international opportunities and broaden their horizons for future career growth.

Association & Activities 2024-25

THREE DAY INDUSTRIAL PROGRAM IN ASSOCIATION WITH L&T SWITCHGEAR TRAINING CENTRE, COONOOR

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering , in collaboration with L&T Switchgear Training Centre, Coonoor, organized a 3-day industrial training program as part of the MoU on a Course LT14 – Introduction to Industrial Electrical System. Students attended the program as Online Sessions on 23rd & 24th January 2025 (Venue: Toc H Institute of Science & Technology Campus) and as Offline Hands-on Training on 29th January 2025 (Venue: L&T Switchgear Training Centre, Coonoor, Ooty). This initiative aims to strengthen industry-academia collaboration, offering students valuable practical exposure and knowledge enhancement. Partnering with L&T, this program reinforces our commitment to excellence in engineering education.

Industrial Visit to KSEB Edamalayar Power Station 

The S8 Electrical & Computer Engineering (ELE) students visited the KSEB Edamalayar Power Station as part of their academic curriculum on 18 March 2025. The visit provided an in-depth understanding of hydroelectric power generation, including turbine operations, power transmission, and grid integration. Engineers at the facility explained the working of the dam, water flow control, and the role of Edamalayar in Kerala’s power supply. This hands-on experience helped students bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applications, enhancing their understanding of renewable energy and power system management.
A journey into the future of Technology – Five day Offline Certification course at IIIT Kottayam 

S4 and S6 semester students of Electrical and Computer Engineering, successfully participated in a 5-day offline certification course on “Data Science Essentials: Python-Powered Learning,” conducted in collaboration with IIITK (Indian Institute of Information Technology, Kottayam) from June 23–27, 2025.

It offered students a valuable opportunity to build a strong foundation in data science and Python programming through hands-on sessions.  The certification conducted in collaboration with IIIT Kottayam, also exposed participants to expert mentorship and a high-quality academic environment. In addition to earning a recognized certification, students enhanced their problem-solving skills, collaborated with peers, and took a significant step toward industry readiness and future placement opportunities.

Industry Interaction Visit to National Power Training Institute

S8 ELE students had visited National Power Training Institute, Alappuzha on 5th March, 2025. The students were introduced to the SCADA and SMART GRID Simulator, RES emulator etc. 

Here’s a short note for an Industry Interaction Visit to National Power Training Institute (NPTI): They  explored real-time control room simulations, thermal power plant models, and renewable energy systems. The sessions conducted by industry experts enriched our understanding of modern power technologies, safety standards, and grid operations.

This visit helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world practices, enhancing our technical competence and awareness of career opportunities in the energy sector.

INTERNSHIP AT KSEB

In the month of July 202414 students of S5 Electrical and Computer Engineering studentscompleted a 5 – day internship at various KSEB Substations. The site was selected as per the ease and convenience of travelling. This internship program provided an exposure to the transmission sector of Kerala State Electricity Board and the methodologies used to supply quality electricity to all the consumers adequately and safely at affordable cost. It enriched the knowledge regarding the transmission sector which is the backbone of power system. The internship covered power distribution through various bays, bus couplers, feeders, and essential substation components such as lightning arresters, transformers, circuit breakers, and wave traps. It also included exposure to modern network data communication technologies like SCADA, SAS, and PLCC, crucial for efficient monitoring and control of substation operations.

Hansel Sabu, ELE S4 had attended a 9-day internship at the Naval Ship Repair Yard (NSRY) in Kochi.The internship provided deep insights into the functioning of naval engineering, enhanced technical knowledge, and offered a unique opportunity to observe and understand the intricacies of maritime defense systems.

WORKSHOP ON BLOCKCHAIN DEVELOPMENT FOR SEMESTER 8

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in association with Department of CSE  at Toc H Institute of Science & Technology, organized a workshop on “Blockchain Development” on 2nd May 2024 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The session was led by Mr. Hari M, Assistant Professor in the Department of CSE at Saintgits College of Engineering, Kottayam. The event was conducted in collaboration with IEEE, IEEE Computer Society, and the IEEE Student Branch of Toc H. Semester 8 students, along with CSE students, attended the workshop, which provided an in-depth understanding of blockchain technology, covering its development, applications, and future prospects. The session was interactive, offering participants valuable insights into this emerging field.

Industry Interaction Visit to Alampally Brothers Ltd.

On 24th July 2024, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) organized an industry interaction visit for Semester 3 and SFE students from TocH Institute of Science and Technology to Alampally Brothers Ltd., Kuzhikkattukara, a leading LPG cylinder manufacturing plant. The visit, lasting 1.0 to 1.5 hours, offered students practical insights into the manufacturing process, quality control, and the role of BIS standards in ensuring safety and reliability. The session was interactive, allowing students to ask questions and deepen their understanding of industry practices. The experience provided valuable exposure, connecting theoretical learning with real-world applications.

ANNUAL BLITZ DAY 2024

The EEE and ELE departments of TIST celebrated Annual Blitz Day 2024 on April 18 at Ramanujan Hall. The event featured Chief Guest Mr. Nair Nandkumar, Senior Associate Vice President at Carborundum Universal Ltd. The program began with a welcome speech by Asst. Prof. Jisha Joseph, Blitz Coordinator of EEE, followed by a presidential address by Er. C.S. Varghese, President of Toc H Public School Society.

HOD(I/C) Asst. Prof. Mangala Devi K.T. presented a report on the department’s activities, after which Mr. N.J. Johnson, Treasurer of Toc H Public School Society, and Dr. Deepa Elizabeth George, Vice Principal of TIST, addressed the gathering. The event also included the honoring of academic toppers, with student Mary Agna being honored as the best student of 2018-2023. In her absence, Mary Agna’s parents received the prize. Additionally, the department magazine “NetSpark” was released, and there were felicitations by members of the management. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by the student coordinator and a talk on Energy Management and Conservation by the chief guest.

PROJECT EXHIBITION

The live demonstrations of innovative projects by the students of the EEE and ELE departments were showcased during the project exhibition on May 10, 2024, in the seminar hall.

On November 7th, 2023, in association with IEDC and IIC, 43 students of S4 EE & EL had a remarkable visit to Maker village, the electronic incubator in Kerala, led by Assistant Professors Deepa P L and Kripa Radhakrishnan.

The students of S8 EEE and S8 EL in association with IEDC, TIST, had visited Malabar Extrusion Pvt ltd., on 25th March 2024, which is a fully integrated aluminum extrusion manufacturer based in Cochin, Kerala. The company has an in-house Die and tooling development, casting, extrusion and metal finishing and the various equipments include advanced CNC machines, vacuum heat treatment and PLC systems.

On February 27th, 2024, as a component of VIDHYUTH ’24, an exhibition highlighting Energy Efficiency was held, featuring demonstrations showcasing the power consumption of selected household appliances.

On February 17, 2023, 42 students of S4 EE & EL embarked on an enlightening trip to the KSEB Pallivasal Power Station in Kerala, led by Assistant Professors Kripa Radhakrishnan and Ansar Jamal . The objective of the visit to the Pallivasal Power Station was to gather information on various aspects such as operational efficiency, maintenance protocols, environmental impact, technological advancements, energy production capacity, and any potential challenges or improvements needed in the field of electricity production. During the trip, students gained insights into the process of electricity generation, including the technologies used, such as hydroelectric turbines, and how they convert water flow into electrical energy.

VIDHYUTH’ 2024

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering successfully conducted the Department Tech Fest, VIDHYUTH 2024, organized by the BLITZ Association, on February 27th, 2024. Exploring boundless creativity, students shone in diverse technical and non-technical activities, attracting participants from inter-departments and TIST.

AWARENESS SESSION ON ENERGY CONSERVATION

Awareness Talk on ‘Energy Conservation’ by Mangala Devi K T, HOD (I/C) – EEE, Toc H Institute of Science and Technology in association with NSS, Energy Club EEE Dept & IIC, on I5th December 2023. The session aimed to explain the students the importance of Energy Management, simple methods of reducing their energy bill, importance of STAR rated appliances etc. The session helps the students to understand the importance of energy managementand the various methods of energy conservation in their homes.

Students of the department of EEE and EL attended 3 days(3/11/23,7/11/23 and 9/11/23) industrial training on “Introduction to industrial electrical system ” at L&T switchgear training center, Coonoor,Ooty, Nilgiris .The course  provides  an  industrial exposure   to students and faculty of our institute.

INTERNSHIP AT LEELA ELECTRIC PAMBAKUDA

A total of 35 students attended the internship which is provided as part of MoU signed by the Department of Electrical and Electronics with Leela Electric, Pambakuda, in the year 2023 to bridge the gap between industry and academics.

VISIT TO KALKITECH

On 8th December 2022Dr.SreelaSreedhar, HoD (CSE), Asst. Prof.Mangala Devi K  T, HoD(I/c, EEE) and Asst. Prof. Mini K R(EEE) visited KALKITECH as a part of the Industry Institute Interaction. Objectives of the Visit were:

  1. To understand the relevance of computers in Electrical Engineering fields, which is the main job area focus of B.Tech in Electrical and Computer Engineering students.
  2. To invite them over to the college for an interaction with our students.
  3. To discuss the creation of MoU for trainings and internship for our students at KALKITECH

Outcomes of the Visit

  1. The TIST team was briefed about the various activities of KALKITECH by a team consisting of Mr.Sushil Cherian, Co-Founder and Vice President – Power Generation, Mr.Johney Varghese, Vice-President, Project Engineering Services, and others.
  2. The TIST team was also taken to the various sections and detailed information was given on the activities.

They had agreed to come over to TIST to meet our students and give them insight into their various solutions that enable digital transformation for Energy & Utilities, Industries, and Enterprises.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO CIAL (COCHIN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT LTD.)

On 25 th November IEEE SB TocH in association with IEEE PES had organised an industrial visit to CIAL as part of IEEE flagship event XOTICA – ’22. Students from S3 (EE – 2021 Adm.) and S5 (EE – 2021 Adm.) along with students from other branches and accompanied by Asst. Prof.Mangala Devi K T (HoD (I/c) EEE Dept.) visited the solar power plant of CIAL. The visit provided the students with an idea on how CIAL utilizes solar energy for powering buildings and parking area of airport.

SKILLDAY AT ST. IGNATIOUS VOCATIONAL HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL, KANJIRAMATTOM

Our S3 EE and EL students Augustus Hayden Antony (EE), Devavani (EE), Amina Neha H (EL), and BhavyaBabu (EL) participated in the SkillDay conducted by IEDC, TIST at St. Ignatious Vocational Higher Secondary School, Kanjiramattom on 30th November 2022. (10 AM to 3 PM)

Two projects were exhibited:
1. Robotic Cot (EL)
2. Electric Power Generation from Hump (EEE)

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO KEL MAMALA

S5 EL and S7 EEE  students along with Asst. Prof Mangala Devi K T, HoD (I/c) EEE Department, and Ms. Sreelegha, Lab Instructor visited Kerala Electrical and Allied Engineering Co. Ltd. (KEL), Mamala on 29th September 2022. A total of 23 students visited KEL Mamala. The visit gave students an insight on construction of different type transformers.  It also gave practical knowledge on how windings are placed and insulation properties of transformers are tested.
