Talk Attended

A talk titled “Elevate Your Projects and Career: Unlocking the Full Potential of IEEE Xplore and EBSCO e-Books” was organized by the TIST NDLI Club on 13 January 2026. The session was attended by Priya Saira Mathews, Assistant Professor. The talk emphasized the effective utilization of IEEE Xplore and EBSCO e-books for academic projects, research enhancement, and career development, offering valuable insights into accessing high-quality scholarly resources.

Faculty Training Attended

Priya Saira Mathews, Assistant Professor, participated in an online training/webinar on “IEEE Xplore” organized by Toc H Institute of Science & Technology. The program provided insights into effective utilization of IEEE Xplore for research, academic activities, and scholarly publications. She successfully completed the training and was awarded a Participation Certificate.

Asst. Prof. Neomi Nelin Nicholas attended the AICTE–ATAL sponsored six-day online Faculty Development Programme titled ‘Next-Gen Intelligence: HPC, Applied AI, and Data Science’, held from December 08 to 13, 2025, and organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

Workshop Attended

Assistant Professors Ms. Smitha Mohan, Ms. Neomi Nelin Nicholas, and Ms. Priya Saira Mathews from the IT department at Toc H Institute of Science & Technology (TIST) successfully participated in and completed the AICTE – Vibrant Advocacy for Advancement and Nurturing of Indian Languages (VAANI) workshop on Gen AI and Data Science: Shaping the Language of Tomorrow’s World. The workshop was conducted in the Malayalam language at Toc H Institute of Science & Technology from November 26 to November 28, 2025

Educational Visit by 1stYear B.Tech IT Students – Quantum Century Exhibition at CUSAT:

The First Year B.Tech IT students participated in an enriching visit to the Quantum Century Exhibition at CUSAT, exploring the future of Quantum Computing, Quantum Communication, AI, and Emerging Technologies, 11 November 2025.

Students interacted with experts, experienced live demonstrations, and gained insights into qubits, quantum circuits, photonic communication, and revolutionary computational models shaping tomorrow’s digital world.

This educational exposure ignited curiosity, strengthened technical awareness, and inspired young innovators to envision the limitless possibilities of quantum technology.

Two-days technical workshop:

B.Tech 1st year IT students actively participated in a two-day technical workshop at NIT Calicut on 25 and 26 October 2025. The workshop offered hands-on training in emerging technologies and industry-aligned tools, enriching their technical knowledge and practical skills. The experience inspired students to pursue innovative projects and deeper learning in their domain.

Technical talk:

A Cyber Security Talk was delivered by Mr. Anwar Swadique for the S7 and S5 students on October 17, 2025. The session provided insights into emerging cyber threats, safe online practices, and effectivesecurity measures that students should follow to protect their personal and academic data.

Hands-on Session on “MongoDB”:

The Department of Information Technology, Toc H Institute of Science and Technology organized a hands-on session on “MongoDB” on 14thOctober 2025. Melbin George, student representative from S5 (2023 Admission), received a Certificate of Appreciation for successfully handling the session.

On September 27, 2025, Asst. Prof. Priya Saira Mathews attended the largest Industry-Academia Summit at Rajagiri School of Engineering & Technology, Kochi.

Session: “Psychological First Aid and Student Support”

In compliance with the Government of Kerala circular No. HEDN-G2/152/2025-HEDN dated 25.08.2025, all affiliated colleges were directed to strictly implement the guidelines issued by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in Criminal Appeal No. 3177 of 2025 dated 25.07.2025 regarding student mental health and suicide prevention. As part of this directive, a session on “Psychological First Aid and Student Support” was organized by Toc H Institute of Science & Technology, Arakkunnam for the non-teaching staff on 18th September 2025 at Tagore Hall. The session was led by Dr. Fabil Varghese, Associate Professor, Department of Applied Psychology and Counselling. The primary objective of the session was to enhance awareness about student mental health and to equip the participants with essential skills to provide psychological first aid and extend appropriate support to students in need.The session was interactive and insightful, with participants engaging in discussions and sharing their perspectives on student mental health challenges. It helped build a better understanding of how timely intervention and compassionate communication can make a difference in preventing mental health crises.

Talk on “Healthy Habits for a Techie Life”:

The guest lecture on “Healthy Habits for a Techie Life” by Dr. Reena Madhu on 18.09.2025 for first year students, focused on balancing the demands of a tech-driven lifestyle with physical and mental well-being. Dr. Reena emphasized the importance of regular exercise, ergonomic workspaces, mindful screen breaks, and hydration to combat the effects of long hours in front of screens. She highlighted mental health practices like meditation and digital detox to reduce stress and prevent burnout. Nutrition tips and time management strategies were also shared to enhance health and productivity. The session motivated the students to adopt sustainable habits for a healthier, more balanced life.

Session on “Resume Building & LinkedIn Profile Enhancement”

As part of ASAP Kerala’s Circle Campaign – Phase 2, a session on “Resume Building & LinkedIn Profile Enhancement” was conducted to help students create impactful resumes and stronger professional profiles.The Session was taken at S7, S5, S3 classes by the respective class representatives Mr.Eldhose Babichan, Mr.Asher Roni Verghese, Ms.Shaly Princess P. on Sept 15th 2025.

An insightful awareness session was delivered by Dr. Rajesh Kocheril, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, focusing on three vital aspects of student life—traffic safety, anti-ragging measures, and the dangers of substance abuse. The session also highlighted the seriousness of ragging prevention, reinforcing that mutual respect, empathy, and inclusivity form the foundation of a healthy campus environment. Students were reminded that ragging in any form is strictly prohibited and against the ethos of the institution

The induction program featured yet another inspiring alumni interaction with Mr. Saigopal S. Shenoi, Technology Lead at Infosys. His session, titled “Meet the Masters: Conversation with Renowned Alumni”, offered students an enriching dialogue filled with personal insights, professional wisdom, and practical guidance.The session was highly interactive, with students eagerly engaging in discussions on career paths, emerging technologies, and workplace challenges. Alumni Talk by Ms. Sanjana R. S. – From Manual to Magic: Evolving as a Test Engineer

The induction program was enriched by an inspiring alumni session delivered by Ms. Sanjana R. S., Test Analyst at H&R Block. Her talk, “From Manual to Magic: Evolving as a Test Engineer”, shed light on the exciting journey of software testing and its transformation in the digital era. Expert Talk by Dr. Bindu Krishnan – Future Ready Career in Information Technology

As part of the induction program, students had the privilege of attending an expert session by Dr. Bindu Krishnan on the topic “Future Ready Career in Information Technology”. This insightful talk was organized under the Mathematics Mastery – Proficiency Modules, aiming to bridge academic learning with the dynamic needs of the IT industry.

This interactive session enabled students to overcome math-related challenges with a focus on logical reasoning and problem-solving. The session aimed to boost students’ confidence in handling mathematical concepts across disciplines.

Dr. Bindu highlighted the transformative role of mathematics and analytical skills in shaping future-ready IT professionals. She explained how problem-solving, logical reasoning, and quantitative aptitude form the backbone of innovation in areas such as data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, and cloud computing

 Guiding Minds – Student Mentorship Program

Python Training Workshop-

As part of their placement preparation, third-year students of the Department of Information Technology participated in a Python training workshop from May 26, 2025, to May 30, 2025. This training aims to equip the students with in-demand skills, enhancing their employability and industry readiness.

The workshop covered key aspects of Python programming, providing hands-on experience and practical knowledge. By acquiring proficiency in Python, the students will be better positioned to excel in the competitive job market and meet the expectations of top industry employers.

Students Internship Program:

We are proud to announce that Rachel Anna Ajith and Draupathi S Krishna, students of the Department of Information Technology, Class of 2025, have successfully completed an 8-week internship at Simplogics Solutions Pvt Ltd, Technopark, Trivandrum. This achievement demonstrates their skills, dedication, and commitment to their chosen field.

The internship provided them with valuable industry experience and exposure, enhancing their knowledge and skills in the field of Information Technology. We congratulate them on this accomplishment and wish them continued success in their future endeavors.

Attended a session on “Gen AI Demystified: How it’s Transforming Modern Engineering”:

Asst. Prof. Neomi Nelin Nicholas,  Asst. Prof. Priya Saira Mathews and Asst. Prof. NifasathPiyar attended a session on “Gen AI Demystified: How it’s Transforming Modern Engineering”, organised by TIST NDLI Club, in association with IIT Kharagpur and the Government of India’s Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) on 5th April, 2025. The session explored the transformative impact of generative AI across engineering disciplines. It covered key concepts like machine learning, deep learning, and real-world applications in automation, design, and predictive maintenance

Participation in Digital Marketing Workshop

The Digital Marketing Workshop, organized by Ormeon IT Consulting Pvt. Ltd., was held on March 22, 2025, at the Monsoon Empress Hotel, Ernakulam. The session focused on enhancing digital marketing strategies for businesses through innovative tools, strategic approaches, and real-world applications. Asst. Prof. Priya Saira Mathews and Ms. Benila Anoop from the Department of Information Technology actively participated, gaining valuable insights into the latest industry trends and practices.

Workshop on “Protecting Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and IP Management for Startups”:

The Department of Information Technology at TIST organized a workshop on “Protecting Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and IP Management for Startups” on 6th March 2025. The event, held from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Tagore Hall, Einstein Block, TIST, was specifically designed for 2nd-year students. Mr. Mahesh C, Assistant Professor from the Department of Robotics and Automation, served as the resource person.

Conducted in association with the Institute Innovation Council (IIC), the workshop aimed to educate participants on safeguarding innovative ideas and understanding IP management for startups. Key topics covered included the importance of IPRs, types of IPRs (patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets), IP management strategies, and best practices for safeguarding innovative ideas.

The interactive session concluded with a Q&A session, where Mr. Mahesh C provided students with valuable insights and clarity on the subject, equipping them with the knowledge to protect their innovative ideas.

Workshop “From Data to Deployment: MongoDB Essentials and Applications”

On February 27, 2025, the Department of Information Technology hosted a workshop titled “From Data to Deployment: MongoDB Essentials and Applications” at the IT Lab, in association with ISTE. Aimed at S4 IT students, the workshop provided hands-on experience with MongoDB, covering data modeling, querying, and deployment of MongoDB-based applications.

Mr. Ashwin Mammen and Mr. Adarsh Jiju David, both S6 IT students, served as the resource persons. The interactive session encouraged active participation, allowing students to apply concepts through real-world examples, while gaining insights into how MongoDB is used in industries and web development workflows.

Hands-on session on “Introduction to LaTex”:

On February 01, 2025, the Department of Information Technology of Toc H Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) conducted a hands-on workshop titled “Introduction to LaTeX” for third-year students (2022 Admission). Led by Ms. Benila Anoop, Lab Instructor from the Department of Information Technology, the session provided participants with practical experience on the fundamentals of LaTeX and guided them in creating simple documents using the tool.

5-day internship hosted by Retechnox Technologies LLP on Cybersecurity

MsSumitha Shine, Ms Niranjana S Kumar, MsNafeezaRiswin K.B, Ms. Anagha Theresa Peter of S2 IT attended 5 day Internship hosted by Retechnox Technologies LLP on Cyber security from 21/01/2025-25/01/2025. The Internship provided hands-on experience with industry-standard tools and techniques, real-world scenarios, and mentorship from experienced professionals. Participants gain practical skills, networking opportunities, and insights into cybersecurity frameworks and best practices. Additionally, the internship helps in preparing for cybersecurity certifications and developing essential soft skills for a career in cybersecurity.

Workshop on “Next Wave of R: Data Analytics”(January 31, 2025)

The hands-on workshop on R-programming was led by students of S8 -IT, Mr. Saatvik Jacob, Mr. Titus Alex, Ms. Elizabeth Sunny, and Ms. RosmalSiby. Open to all students, this workshop covered fundamental to advanced concepts in data analysis, visualization, and statistical computing. The event was held on January 31, 2025,  as part of National level Techfest Advay 2025. Participants learned the fundamentals of R-programming, gained hands-on experience in data analytics and visualization, and explored real-world applications of R in various industries.It was a truly insightful session delivered by our young and enthusiastic team.

Seminar on “Cultivating an all-round development and Professionalism in You” (January 30, 2025)

The students of S2-IT participated in an engaging personality development session, focusing on enhancing their problem-solving skills, professional awareness, and overall personal growth. The session’s highlights included:

  • Interactive problem-solving exercises that stimulated critical thinking and creativity
  • Awareness on professional exams, such as certifications and placements, to prepare students for their future careers
  • Team-building activities that fostered collaboration, communication, and leadership skills
  • Self-reflection exercises that helped students identify their strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement
  • Motivational discussions on goal-setting, time management, and stress management

Through these activities, students gained valuable insights into their personal and professional development, equipping them with essential skills to succeed in their academic and professional pursuits.

On January 29, 2025, the Department of Information Technology at Toc H Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) conducted a hands-on workshop titled “Graphics Designing” for first-year students (2024 Admission). Led by Ms. Santhi N M, Lab Instructor from the Department of Information Technology, and the primary objective of the workshop was to familiarize students with the core concepts of graphic design, enhance their creativity, and develop their skills in using graphic design software effectively.

Hands-on session on “Introduction to LaTex”:

On January 22, 2025, the Department of Information Technology of Toc H Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) conducted a hands-on workshop titled “Introduction to LaTeX” for first-year students (2024 Admission). Led by Ms. Benila Anoop, Lab Instructor from the Department of Information Technology, the session provided participants with practical experience in the fundamentals of LaTeX and guided them in creating simple documents using the tool.

Practical session on “Network Simulation with Packet Tracer”:

The Department of Information Technology, Toc H Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) organized a practical session titled “Network Simulation with Packet Tracer” on October 22, 2024. The workshop, led by Assistant Professor Priya Saira Mathews from the Department of Information Technology, provided students with hands-on experience in network simulation and troubleshooting using Cisco’s Packet Tracer software.

Talk on “Mental Health & Personal Hygiene”:

The Department of Information Technology, Toc H Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) recently organized an enlightening talk on the topic “Mental Health & Personal Hygiene.” This talk was delivered by Dr. Reena Madhu, Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Psychology at TIST, and took place on October 18,2024.

The session aimed to shed light on the interconnectedness of mental health and personal hygiene, focusing on how habits in these areas can contribute to overall well-being. Dr. Reena Madhu, a specialist in mental health, began by emphasizing that personal hygiene goes beyond physical health and it plays a crucial role in fostering a positive mental state.

Hydro-Innovate: A Hackathon for Clean Water Solutions

The Department of Information Technology, in partnership with the Directorate of Technical Education-Udyama 1.0, hosted a successful hackathon on September 23rd, 2024. The event aimed to foster innovative solutions for clean water and sanitation.A team from Sree Saraswathy Vidya Mandir, Karikode, comprising Master Navneethu Kumar, Ms. Thrithiksha Nair, and Master B. Devadath, emerged as the school-level winners, while a team from TIST’s Computer Science department, consisting of Ms. Malavika Narayanan, Ms. Rini Sara Markose, and Mr. Akhil P.S, secured the title of College-level winners.The evaluation panel consisted of Prof. Dr. Gnana Sheela and Dr. Ashmi M.Dr. Resmi R, Udyama Coordinator and Head of the Mathematics Department, along with Dr. Rasmi P.S, Head of the Information Technology Department, were present at the event.Participants from various departments within TIST, as well as external participants, contributed to the success of this inspiring hackathon.

The Department of Information Technology, TIST successfully hosted “Meet the Masters” alumni talk session on September 11, 2024, as part of the Induction Program 2024. Ms. Rinu Susan Jacob (Alumni IT: 2013-2017), Technical Program Manager at Xactly, and Mathew Annie Thampy (Alumni IT: 2011-2015), Principal Software Engineer at Eurofins, shared their inspiring journeys, industry experiences, and expert insights, captivating students and faculty. The engaging session fostered meaningful interactions provided valuable industry perspectives, and motivated newcomers to emulate the success stories of their predecessors.

The Department of Information Technology, TIST hosted an alumni talk session “Meet the Masters” on September 9, 2024, as part of the Induction Program 2024. Ms. Solitha Mathew, an esteemed alumnus (IT: 2017-2021),Student at The George Washington University, Washington, District of Columbia, United States shared valuable insights and inspiring experiences from her professional journey, engaging students from 2:00 PM-4:00 PM. The interactive session provided newcomers with industry perspectives, guidance, and motivation, setting a positive tone for their academic journey.

The Entrepreneurship Journey – From Idea to Product

The Department of Information Technology, in association with Innovations & Entrepreneurship Development Centre(IEDC), TIST, successfully hosted”. The Entrepreneurship Journey: From Idea to Product” as part of the Induction Program 2024. On September 9, 2024, Ms. Devika Rajan, Founder & CEO of Mentally-e, inspired 31 newly joined students with her entrepreneurial journey, sharing valuable insights on idea generation, product development, and overcoming challenges. The engaging session, powered by Mentally-e, received enthusiastic feedback, setting the tone for a promising academic year and encouraging students to embark on their own entrepreneurial ventures

The Department of Information Technology hosted a workshop on “𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰𝐬” on July 29th 2024 at Tagore Hall. Ms. Sanjana RS, a seasoned Senior Test Engineer and President of the Toastmasters Club H&R Block, conducted the informative session. The event was conducted at Tagore Hall from 1.20-4 pm
Internship “Machine Learning Mastery.”

The Department of Information Technology, in association with Elkanio Research Labs, hosted a one-week Industry Internship Program titled “Machine Learning Mastery” Sponsored by ISTE.This program provided participants with in-depth knowledge and practical experience in machine learning techniques. The collaboration aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry demands, preparing attendees to tackle real-world machine learning challenges and empowering them to pursue careers in this field.

Industrial Visit at Maker Village 

On 20th March 2024, S1 & S3 IT students visited Maker Village at KINFRA Hi-Tech Park, Kochi. They explored state-of-the-art facilities, engaged with innovative startups, and gained insights into Kerala’s vibrant ecosystem supporting electronic hardware innovation. The visit emphasized the role of Maker Village in nurturing entrepreneurship through mentorship, technical support, and networking opportunities. Students gained practical insights into the journey from idea conception to product development in a startup environment.

‘Alumni Insights: Navigating Success and Beyond.’

As an integral component of the 2023 admissions orientation program, the Department of Information Technology organized a special session titled ‘Alumni Insights: Navigating Success and Beyond.’ Occurred on September 14, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, the event showcased the distinguished speaker, Manju Jose Palathingal, an accomplished alumnus from the class of 2010-2014 and a Software Engineer at Intel Corporation in California, USA, shared essential perspectives. Additionally, Mr. Sreejith V U, an alumnus from IT 2011-15 and Software Engineer at Amazon Web Services in Seattle, USA, also shared his experiences during the session.”

In today’s rapidly evolving tech landscape, fostering innovation is crucial for both individual growth and industry advancement. One effective way to cultivate innovation is through mentorship, where experienced individuals guide and empower the next generation of tech enthusiasts. This webinar, “Fostering Innovation Through Mentorship: Navigating the Tech Landscape Together,” aims to explore the dynamic relationship between mentorship and innovation in the ever-changing world of technology. Dr. Premsankar C, a distinguished consultant specializing in Data Science, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence, as well as a seasoned Startup Mentor and Entrepreneur, took charge of the session on the evening of December 15, 2023, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

The “Cyber Security Awareness session”, held on October 27, 2023, from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM and hosted by the Department of Information Technology, delivered a thorough exploration of the field. The keynote speaker, Mr. Shefin S, a seasoned Senior Cyber Security Researcher, provided groundbreaking discoveries into the ever-evolving landscape of cybersecurity. Talk on “Cyber Security Insights with Flipper Zero”

The session “Cyber Security Insights with Flipper Zero” provided a comprehensive exploration of cybersecurity. Hosted by the Department of Information Technology on September 30, 2023, from 1:20 PM to 3:00 PM, the event featured Mr. Sajith Gopinath, a seasoned Senior Cyber Security Trainer and Researcher, as the keynote speaker. Attendees gained discerning perspectives into the dynamic world of cybersecurity, with a focus on practical applications and emerging trends, all centered around the innovative ideas offered by Flipper Zero.

The session was handled by Mr. Hari M Assistant Professor,Saintgits College of Engineering, Pala. The session was very inspiring and interactive.

ISTE Sponsored Five Days Short Term Training Program (STTP) on Machine Learning for Cyber Security

 Duration: 26th May- 31st May 2023

Participants: Total 20 participants from various institutions

 Objectives:

  • To equip participants with practical skills and a solid understanding of machine learning concepts, IoT, Cyber Security and Video processing techniques.
  • To implement data hiding techniques with real-world image datasets and apply these techniques to secure confidential images and prevent digital forgery.
  • To enhance practical skills by working real-world IoT devices and implementing IoT solutions, as well as identifying and mitigating various types of cyber threats using machine learning algorithms
  • To gain a thorough understanding of the core concepts of cyber security, including network security, cryptography and ethical hacking.

DAY 1: 26/05/2023 (Friday)

Inauguration: Five days ISTE sponsored Short Term Training Program (STTP-2017) which was organized from 26th May to 31st May 2023 on “Machine Learning for Cyber Security” was designed to equip participants with the practical knowledge of various technologies in the domain of Machine Learning and Cyber Security.

The Short-Term Training Programme inauguration started with the heart-warming welcome address by Asst. Prof. Sandhya C P, Co-ordinator of the STTP. Dr. Rasmi P S, Convenor of the STTP gave a brief summary about the STTP objectives followed by the presidential address of Dr. Alex Mathew and inaugural function. The Short-Term Training Programme inaugurated with the lighting of lamp by the chief guest, Dr.Nidhi M B, ISTE National   Council Member, Dr.Alex Mathew, President, Toc H Public School Society delivered presidential address. The session further continued with felicitation by Dr. Preethi Thekkath, Principal, TIST. The vote of thanks was delivered by Asst. Prof. Neomi Nelin Nicholas.

After the tea break, Dr. Nidhi M B, ISTE National Committee Member, who was the chief guest of the day, has given key note on “Introduction to Machine Learning and Cyber Security”. In her note, she has explained the key introductory points related to machine learning and cyber security. The session was very informative and explained the importance of cyber security and types of learning like Machine learning, deep learning, supervised and unsupervised learning and applications of each in detail with example problems.

Highlights of the sessions:

The recent technology related to Data Hiding methods for Digital Image Security  was discussed in this session. The speaker presented some basic concepts used in the technology relating to bestsuitable real-life examples which are essential for the understanding of the technology.

Further the session was detailed about:

  • Steganography and water marking
  • Reversable Data Hiding Schemes
  • Anomaly Detection
  • Demonstration of Digital Image Security

The entire session was an interactive session and the speaker answered many queries raised by the participants. Also, the feedback about the session was collected from all the participants to improve the sessions that will be conducted in the future. Asst. Prof. Neomi Nelin Nicholas concluded the session with Vote of thanks. The session was an eye opener for the participants who wanted to bloom in the field of Digital Marketing

Dr. Sreeja M U is having rich experience in the field of Video Skimming and Summarization. She gave a brief introduction about video skimming and video summarization techniques and explained several real time applications where Video Skimming and Summarization is used.

The fouth day of STTP started with the session on “Internet of Things (IoT) and Security for Cyber Security Applications “handled by Dr. Panchami V. She is having rich experience in the field of IoT, and cyber security. She gave a brief introduction about IoT, and application of IoT in real life applications. Dr. Panchami V showed the demonstration by executing the code of IoT applications using Thinker card and explained the concepts of IoT to the participants. Several participants eagerly attended the event and interacted with the resource person and cleared theirs queries. Finally, the session got concluded at 12.45pm and Asst. Prof. Neomi Nelin Nicholas thanked the resource person and the participants.

Session Topic:  Cyber Security Tools (Hands on)

Resource Person:Manu Francis, Certified Ethical hacker and SOC Analyst, Founder Edwhere Education

Highlights of the sessions:

The cyber security tool session provided participants an opportunity to gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience in the field of cyber security. The session began with an introduction to the importance of cyber security tools in identifying vulnerabilities, detecting threats, and protecting systems and networks. Participants gained an understanding of the different categories of cyber security tools, such as vulnerability scanners, intrusion detection systems (IDS), network analyzers, and password crackers. Participants learned Nmap tool in the platform of Kali Linux. The sesson witnessed enthusiastic participation from several attendees who actively engaged with the resource person, asking insightful questions and receiving clarifications. The session came to a close at 4:00 pm, and Asst. Prof. Neomi Nelin Nicholas expressed gratitude to both the resource person and the participants for their valuable contributions.

DAY 5:  31/05/2023 (Wednesday)

Session Topic: Machine Learning for IoT security

Resource Person:Dr. Sangeetha Jose, Associate Professor, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, Pampady

Highlights of the sessions:

The fifth day session was handled by Dr. Sangeetha Jose on the topic “Machine Learning for IoT security”. She gave a brief introduction about Machine Learning for IoT and the security issues related to it and the challenges the industry is facing. She briefed about the current technologies and their security issues. She gave some real time examples and and explained the concepts to the audience. Finally the session got concluded at 12.35 pm and Asst. Prof. Neomi Nelin Nicholas thanked the resource person and the participants.

Evaluation Test: 1.30pm – 2.30 pm

An evaluation test is conducted based on the session topics on day 3,4 and day 5.

Validatory Function

The program ended with the valedictory function which was graced with the presence of Dr.Rasmi P S,HoD IT. In her valedictory talk, started with congratulating coordinators and organizing committee for the successful conduct of STTP. She explained the importance of incorporating project-based learning to enhance research culture in this institute. She also mentioned that such programs provide a common platform to discuss and learn new methodology to upgrade ourselves. After that, participants gave feedback about the STTP. The function ended with a Vote of Thanks presented by Asst. Prof. Neomi Nelin Nicholas. The valedictory function concluded by taking a group photo of STTP participants and core committee members.

Webinar on AI in Creative Space

In collaboration with ISTE, the Department of Information Technology hosted an engaging webinar titled “AI in Creative Space” for students. The event took place on April 25, 2023, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM under the banner of Techizer 2023, the National level tech fest. Dr. Prem Sankar C, an accomplished DS/ML/AI Consultant, startup Mentor/Entrepreneur, conducted the session, which proved to be both inspiring and interactive. The session will encompass a variety of AI-related subjects, including an introduction to AI, the learning processes within AI, the integration of AI in literature through ChatGPT, its applications in arts and music, exploration of Google AI Experiments, insights into AI-powered news readers, and the concept of AI avatars.

Talk on “Techpreneurship”

In partnership with ISTE, the Department of Information Technology at TIST hosted an insightful session under the title “Techpreneurship.” The talk was expertly delivered by Ms. Sonu Soman Pillai, a Business Analyst and Product Manager at Muthoot Pappachan Technology Limited. The event took place on April 20, 2023. During the session, a wide array of  topics were covered, including Innovation and Idea Generation, Market Research and Analysis, Business Models and Planning, Product Development and Prototyping, Technology Trends and Integration, Legal and Intellectual Property Considerations, Funding and Investment, and many more. The students found immense value in the session, gaining significant insights to enhance their understanding.

Ideathon-“Global Recession”

As part of the National Level Techizer 23 event, the Department of Information Technology, in association with IEDC-TIST and ISTE, orchestrated a college-level ideathon competition centered around the theme of “Global Recession.” The competition took place on April 18, 2023, attracting enthusiastic participation from students representing various colleges.

Ideathon-“Kochi can’t Breath”

In an inspiring collaboration with IEDC-TIST and ISTE, the Department of Information Technology orchestrated a captivating school-level ideathon competition under the thought-provoking theme of “-“Kochi Can’t Breathe?”. The theme was chosen in response to the recent fire incident at the Bhrama Puram solid waste treatment plant, highlighting the urgency of addressing this concerning issue. This event, held on the 17th of April 2023 as a vital component of the prestigious National Level Fest Techizer 23, witnessed vibrant participation from talented students representing diverse schools.

The competition’s culmination unveiled two remarkable winners, Mr.Bezalel Stephen and Mr.Teja Thomas from the prestigious St. Kuriakose public school School in Kaduthuruthy. Their outstanding innovation and dedication were recognized as they received prize money from Vice Principal Dr. Deepa Elizabeth George.

Ideathon- In connection with” Universal Women’s Week”

In collaboration with ISTE and IEDC TIST, the Department of Information Technology hosted an exciting Ideathon Competition for B.Tech students, held on March 21, 2023, in conjunction with Universal Women’s Week. The theme for the competition was “Technological Solutions to Address Women’s Challenges in India.” The winners were the team comprised of Ms. Amina Ahemmed, Ms Raichel Anna Ajith, and Mr. Roshan Mathew Varghese and Rosemal Sibi , all from S4 Information Technology. Their outstanding work earned them a cash prize, graciously awarded by Dr. Viswanath N.”

Workshop on “Web Development”

In collaboration with ISTE, the Department of Information Technology curated a workshop centered around “Web Development” exclusively for the 2022 Batch (S1) students. This session was held on October 26, 2022. The workshop was skillfully conducted by Mr. Ajaykumar M V, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Technology at TIST.
The workshop encompassed various topics, including an introduction to web development, understanding HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), exploring CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), delving into responsive web design, and initiating a foundational understanding of JavaScript etc.

Department of Information Technology in association with IEDC, TIST & ISTE organized Workshop on R Programming on 30th September 2022 for S7, 2019 Admission students. The Resource Person: Mr. Sreejith R, Expert- R Programming.
The hands-on portion of the workshop covered a wide spectrum of topics, including an introduction to R Programming, the process of loading and importing data into R, understanding data structures within R, data visualization techniques, statistical analysis using R, an overview of data analysis workflows, basic concepts of machine learning with R, and finally, the application of these principles through case studies and practical examples

TIST Institution Innovation Council (IIC) in Association with the Department of Information Technology and TIST IEDC & ISTE organized an online session on “From an Innovative Idea to a Startup Business“on 26th August 2022.The session was led by Mr. Joel Varghese, an esteemed alumnus from the 2016-2020 batches, who currently serves as the Founder & CEO of Blackwood Dynamics.

The talk was a highly enlightening and enriching experience for budding entrepreneurs. Participants acquired invaluable insights into the diverse phases of startup evolution, spanning from the inception of ideas to their expansion into thriving businesses.
