NASA International Space Apps Challenge

Akash K. M. and Sreehari P. R. of S1 Robotics and Automation received the Certificate of Achievement for their exceptional participation in the 2025 NASA International Space Apps Challenge – “Galactic Problem Solver.” Their innovative approach, dedication, and creative problem-solving contributed significantly to addressing real-world challenges that influence life on Earth and beyond. This recognition reflects their strong technical potential and marks an inspiring milestone in their early engineering journey.

Hands-On Robotics Training

Nivedya K Praveen, Gourichandra K , Christa Philo Joseph , Keerthypriya V J and Aneeta Sumesh of S1 Robotics and Automation successfully completed a one-day workshop on in the field of Robotics, organized by Retechnox Technologies LLP, Kozhikode on  October 3, 2025, and provided hands-on training and practical exposure to various aspects of robotics, including design, programming, and automation. This experience enhanced the participant’s technical skills and understanding of real-world robotic applications, contributing to their overall professional development.

  • NASCOMM Certification

    A total of 32 students from S1 Robotics and Automation have successfully completed a certification course on “Generative AI Literacy.” The program is aligned with the competency standards developed by the IT-ITeS Sector Skills Council, NASSCOM, in collaboration with industry and government partners. This achievement highlights the students’ enthusiasm for acquiring cutting-edge technological skills and their commitment to staying aligned with the evolving trends in Artificial Intelligence.

  • Outstanding Achievement in Shooting Championship

    Jarudh K.J, first-semester B.Tech Robotics and Automation student, brought pride to the institution by winning the bronze medal at the 16th South Zone Shooting Championship held in Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, from 21st to 26th September 2025. His remarkable performance in the event reflects dedication, focus, and sporting excellence.

  • Drones Revolutionizing Agriculture and Aquaculture

    Aswin P. Nair, Managing Director and CTO of NexoSpark and an alumnus of the Robotics and Automation 2020 batch, was featured in the September 2025 edition of the Malayalam magazine Karshakashree. The feature highlighted the innovative drones he has designed and developed for applications such as crop fertilization in farm fields and automated feeding in aqua fish farms and hatcheries. He also shared insights into his latest innovation, “Asthra,” a drone jointly developed by IIIT Kottayam and NexoSpark, reflecting significant advancements in agricultural and aquaculture technology.

  • Alumni Achievements: Alumni Excel at Global Summit 2025 Idea Pitching Competition

Abel Eugene, John Lukose, and Adarsh K. S. (RA 2021–25) showcased exceptional innovation and teamwork by securing the Second Runner-Up position in the final round of the Idea Pitching Competition at YIP 5.0. The event was held as part of the Global Summit 2025, conducted from 29th to 30th August 2025, at the prestigious Grand Hyatt Kochi, Bolgatty.   • Resource Person at IEEE RoboCrewTales: Smart Mobility – The Evolution of Mobile Robots
    On August 30, 2025, as part of the RoboCrewTales initiative, the IEEE RAS Kerala Chapter hosted a virtual talk on “Smart Mobility,” delivered by Asst. Prof. Sheethal Ann Ajith from the Department of Robotics and Automation. The session, held via Google Meet, attracted active participation from students across various colleges. It provided a detailed overview of mobile robots, tracing their evolution from simple autonomous platforms to sophisticated AI-driven systems. The talk also highlighted key applications in industries such as healthcare, transportation, and defense, while exploring recent advancements and future prospects in smart mobility technology
  • Resource Person at IEEE Workshop on Face Tracking Using Python: Mastering AI-Powered Security Bots

On August 8, 2025, the IEEE SB TOC H, in collaboration with the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS), conducted a virtual workshop titled “FACETRACK: Mastering AI Powered Security Bots” focused on face tracking using Python. Led by Asst. Prof. Sheethal Ann Ajith from the Department of Robotics and Automation, the session introduced participants to the fundamentals of face tracking and recognition, emphasizing their applications in security and AI-driven systems. Attendees from various colleges actively engaged in a hands-on coding exercise, implementing facial recognition algorithms on sample image datasets, gaining practical experience in Python programming and machine learning concepts within computer vision.

  • Resource Person  at RoboTech -Elevate  2025

Dr. Deepa Elizabeth George, Vice Principal and Head of the Department of Robotics & Automation at TIST, was one of the distinguished speakers at “ROBO-TECH,” a prestigious online technical session held on August 21, 2025. The event was organized by the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, Bangladesh Chapter, in collaboration with the IEEE Bangladesh Section, bringing together experts, academicians, and professionals from across the region to discuss recent advancements and trends in robotics and automation.

During her address, Dr. Deepa Elizabeth George presented an insightful overview of the Department of Robotics and Automation at TIST, highlighting the department’s significant milestones and achievements. She emphasized the department’s growing portfolio of innovative projects that span areas such as autonomous systems, intelligent robotics, industrial automation, and human-robot interaction. These projects, driven by both students and faculty, have not only contributed to academic excellence but have also made notable impacts in practical, real-world applications.

  • Outstanding Achievement in Shooting Championship

Jarudh (S1 RA) achieved remarkable success at the 57th Kerala State Shooting Championship 2025 held in Kasaragod, securing a total of 8 Gold, 1 Silver, and 6 Bronze medals, including 3 Gold, 1 Silver, and 3 Bronze in individual events. With this outstanding performance, he has qualified for the 16th South Zone Shooting Championship scheduled to be held in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, from September 21 to 26, 2025

  • World Youth Skills Day: Student-Led AI Awareness Session Highlights Emerging Tech

As part of the World Youth Skills Day initiative, a brief and insightful session on Artificial Intelligence was conducted for the S5 Robotics and Automation students under the banner of ASAP Kerala  15 th July 2025. The resource person was Sherin Shanawaz ( S5 Robotics and Automation ) . The session was based on the module “AI and Generative AI in Action: A Study Module for Skill Champions.”.  The session was attended by 31 students of Fifth Semester Robotics and automation .

The session aimed to raise awareness about the growing importance of AI and motivate students to develop skills in this transformative field. It covered key roles in the AI ecosystem—Data Analyst, Data Scientist, and Data Engineer—along with an introduction to Generative AI tools like ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot, prompt engineering techniques, and real-world applications across sectors such as e-commerce, manufacturing, healthcare, and infrastructure. The session was well-received, with enthusiastic student participation, and certificates were awarded to all attendees in recognition of their engagement

Achievement in Arts: MUDRA ’25

The Robotics and Automation Department also demonstrated exceptional talent at the MUDRA ’25 Arts Fest held on March 21st , 2025. The team clinched second prize in the Western Group Song category with members Angelina Gibi, Ebenezer Justin, Hannan Sebastian, Aysha PM, Ashish Stephan, Azeem Bin Siras, and Sreyas

Ajjayan(S6 RA). In the Thiruvathira category, the team bagged third prize, comprising Vidyasree P, Malavika, Sneha, Bia, Smrithi, and Adithya(S2,S4 and S6 RA). Additionally, Sreyas Ajjayan further distinguished himself by securing third prize in the Instrument Solo event(S6 RA)

Achievement in Sports

*. Grania of S2 RA excelled in the recent athletics meet, securing first place in the 100m, 200m, and 400m events. She also achieved a commendable second place in the discus throw and third place in the long jump, showcasing her outstanding athletic skills and versatility.

John Jiss Jolly ,Joseph Varkey of S2 RA played a key role in securing the 3rd prize in the 4x100m relay   event, showcasing his strong performance and teamwork.

A team of researchers and faculty members from Toc H Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) and M.A. College of Engineering, Kothamangalam has been awarded a Certificate of Registration of Design by the Patent Office, Government of India for their innovative work titled AI Based Robot for Vehicle Manufacturing.” The design, registered under Design No. 438974-001 on 29/11/2024 and officially issued on 20/02/2025, is classified under Class 15-99. Financial Assistance for Student Project under KTU CERD Funding Scheme

The APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU), through its Centre for Engineering Research and Development (CERD), has sanctioned funding under the CERD Student Project Scheme 2024–25 for the project titled “ROS-Enabled Agricultural Robot with Machine Learning and Custom User Interface”, guided by Dr. Georgina Binoy Joseph. The project, undertaken by final-year Robotics and Automation students Alikha Balan, Jeevan Raju, Sidhharth, and Gregory T.Jose, aims to develop a smart agricultural robot integrating ROS, machine learning, and a custom interface to enhance efficiency in farming practices.

The VIGNETTE – INDUSTRY 4.0 project presentation, organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering on  March 5th 2025, witnessed impressive student innovations focused on the latest industrial technologies. Jeevan Raju and Alikha Balan of S8RA secured the first prize for their project, which effectively demonstrated the integration of smart systems in manufacturing, under the guidance of Dr. Georgina Binoy Joseph, Associate Professor, Department  of Robotics & Automation and Dean UG.

The third prize was awarded to NS Parvathy and Fathima Fida, mentored by Girish.P, Asst.Professor,Department of RA for their project on automation and robotics. Build-A-Bot Challenge at PRAYANA 2025 by IEEE RAS

As part of PRAYANA 2025, the flagship event of IEEE RAS Kerala Chapter, students from the Department of Robotics and Automation participated in Build-A-Bot, a 20-day robotics challenge focused on designing and building an interactive event greeter robot capable of answering trained questions. Phase 1 Review of ACARR-ISRO Landslide Prediction Project

The Phase 1 Review of the ACARR-funded project, “Integration of MEMS Accelerometer and GNSS for Landslide Prediction,” in collaboration with ISRO, was conducted online on 11th February  2025. The project update was presented to the ACARR team, including Dr. Abhilash S. (Director, ACARR CUSAT) and Engineers Sarath Krishna S. and Rejoy Rebello.The Principal Investigator, Dr. Georgina Binoy Joseph (Associate Professor, Department of Robotics and Automation & Dean UG), presented the project’s progress to the ACARR team, highlighting developments in obtaining MEMS accelerometer data using STM LoRaWAN board and logging this data on a SD card. The project Co-Investigators Dr.Deepa Elizabeth George,HOD ,Department of Electronics and Dhanya.R ,Assistant Professor ECE  attended the session along with the student team members Ashil Sebastin and Sreyas Ajjayan of S6 Robotics and Automation.

Best Project Award in Robotics at Srishti 2025

Adarsh K.S., John Agnel Pinhero, and Abel Eugene D’Silva of S8 Robotics and Automation won the Best Project Award in Robotics at Srishti 2025, the 11th National Level Technical Project Exhibition and Competition held at St.Gits College of Engineering on 24- 25th February 2025. Their project, titled “Autonomous All-Terrain Surveillance Rover for Military Patrolling,” was recognized for its innovation and impact under the theme “Innovations for a Sustainable Inclusive Future.”The project was guided by Dr. Georgina Binoy Joseph, Associate Professor, Department of Robotics and Automation & Dean UG, and demonstrated cutting-edge technology aimed at enhancing military surveillance and patrolling capabilities.

John Lukose Cochettu and Grigari T. Jose, students from the S8 Robotics and Automation  batch, have secured an internship opportunity at Evobi Automations Pvt Ltd , a leading company specializing in automation solutions. This internship will provide them with hands-on experience in automation technologies, robotics, and control systems, offering a platform to apply the theoretical knowledge gained during their studies

ACARR Grants ₹1,15,500 for Landslide Prediction Project 

The Advanced Centre for Atmospheric Radar Research (ACARR) has provided ₹1,15,500 in funding for the project “Integration of MEMS Accelerometer and GNSS for Landslide Prediction.” This initiative is part of a network project approved by New Space India Limited (NSIL), ISRO.

The student team includes Sreyas P. Ajjayan and Ashin Sebastin of S6 Robotics and AutomationThe project is led by Dr. Georgina Binoy Joseph (Dean UG & Associate Professor, Department of Robotics and Automation) as the Principal Investigator, with Dr. Deepa Elizabeth George (HOD, Department of Robotics and Automation) and Asst. Prof. Dhanya R(Department  of ECE)  as Co-Investigators.

  • Participation in ISENSE 2024: Advancing Innovation in Smart Electronics and Communication Systems

    The International Conference on Smart Electronics and Communication Systems 2024 (ISENSE 2024), organized by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at IIIT Kottayam, served as a platform to showcase advancements in smart electronics and communication systems. Akash Nath, a final-year Robotics and Automation student, presented a research paper titled “Autonomous Robot Enhanced with Gemini-Assistant for Elderly Life,” highlighting innovative methodologies and applications in robotics and automation. The presentation received positive feedback and inspired engaging discussions among attendees.

  • SPAN Hosts Python Team Challenge for 1st Semester B.Tech Robotics & Automation Students

    The Skill Planning and Acquisition Cell (SPAN) conducted a Python Team on 16th December 2024.Challenge for 1st Semester B.Tech Robotics and Automation (RA) students. The top three winners of the competition are Amit P Jaikumar, Devi Anjana Anoop S, and Smrithi Ann Maju. The event highlighted the students’ programming proficiency in Python, fostering teamwork and enhancing their technical skills, providing valuable experience in a competitive environment.

  • Toc H Alumnus  Pioneers Industrial Automation with Robotic Welding Cell at SFO Technologies

    Akshay Kannan, an alumnus of Toc H Institute of Science and Technology, Department of Robotics and Automation(2020-2024 batch), successfully designed and implemented SFO Technologies’ first robotic welding cell during his internship from December 2023 to November 2024. This cutting-edge system, featuring a KUKA robot, incorporates advanced functionalities such as an HMI interface for intuitive operator control, pneumatic locks and fixers for precise part positioning, sensors for seamless operation, a rotating table for efficient welding on both sides of parts, and flexible programming to accommodate diverse components.   This groundbreaking project not only enhanced production efficiency at SFO Technologies but also provided Akshay with invaluable hands-on experience in industrial automation.

The PALS innoWAH! Pitch Your Plan competition, held on October 17th, 18th, and 19th, 2024, successfully highlighted a variety of innovative project proposals from participants. The team “NEURALYF,” consisting of members Gopika.G. Prabhu, Sanjay K.S, Rishi. A, Sabin Saju and Steve Paul from S5 Robotics and Automation, mentored by Asst.Prof Mahesh,C, has been selected to advance to the Pitch Your Project (PYP) phase.

Resource Person: Skill Forge- Exploring Cutting-Edge Technology

On October 18th, the IEEE RAS Kerala Chapter conducted an exclusive hands-on workshop titled “Skill Forge: Step into the World of Cutting-Edge Technology” for school students at St. Joseph College of Engineering and Technology, Palai. The workshop featured Rizwan M. Shiras, a student from the S7 Robotics and Automation program, as the resource person. Rizwan, who also serves as the Chair of the IEEE Student Branch at Toc H, guided participants through various innovative technologies and practical applications, fostering engagement and enthusiasm for the field of robotics.

 The project “NeuroNav Chair” ,by final year students of ECE (2020-24’ Batch) showcasing innovative design and technological prowess, has rightfully earned the title of the Winner at SAMAGRA – The Project Expo held at Adi Shankara Institute of Technology on March 1st, 2024.The project team consists of  Akash K.S, Akshay.K,KrishnaPriya C Nair and Athulya .K.Saju. Success in ISRO Robotics Challenge – URSC 2024

The students from Toc H have achieved remarkable success in the ISRO Robotics Challenge – URSC 2024 at the National level. Among the numerous participating teams, our students have been selected among the top 10%.

The triumphant team comprises talented individuals from various departments, including the Department of Robotics and Automation, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The team is mentored by Dr. Georgina Binoy Joseph, Associate Professor in the Department of Robotics and Automation.

Their achievement reflects the dedication, hard work, and innovative thinking of our students, who have showcased their skills and expertise in robotics and automation at a national platform.

Student Projects @ Keraleeyam 2023 

The projects “SkySentinel” developed by final-year students of Robotics and Automation, and “NeuroNav Chair” developed by final-year students of Electronics and Communication Engineering , were selected for presentation at the KTU stall during Keraleeyam 2023 at Thiruvananthapuram from November 1st to November 7th, 2023.

The team “SkySentinel” includes Akshay Kannan, Basil Shaju, Devkrishna TR, and Miqudad RF, under the guidance of Assistant Professor Hashfi KH and  “NeuroNav Chair” project team includes Akshay K, Athulya K Saju, Akash KS, and Krishnapriya Nair, guided by Dr. Deepa Elizabeth George, HoD ECE, and Assistant Professor Sajitha KS.

EyeROV (IROV Technologies Private Limited) Kochi

EyeROV (IROV Technologies Private Limited) is a company that specializes in underwater robotics and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). They  offer innovative solutions for underwater exploration, inspections, and data collection. As a part of the MOU with EyeROV (IROV Technologies Private Limited) ,they have offered internships for Robotics and Automation students (2019-23 batch) and two of our students Manushri  Nambiar and Jayakrishnan.S got selected  as Intern at EyeRov.

HACKLOOP -24 hour Hackathon Winners
 

Hafiz Shafeekh of S6 Robotics & Automation  &  Sandeep Prakash of S4 Robotics & Automation  has   secured second position at Hackloop –A  24-hour hackathon event that  took place as a part of the Obsqura techfest hosted by the Ilahia College of Engineering and Technology on May 2nd and 3rd respectively. This exciting event was designed to challenge participants to push their creativity and problem-solving skills to the limit as they work in teams to build innovative tech solutions. During the 24-hour Hackloop event, participants had the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded individuals to develop new software, hardware, or digital products.

Dr. Deepa Elizabeth George, Vice Principal and Head of the Department of Electronics, TIST was the Chief guest on the second day of the 2nd International Conference on “Emerging Trends in Materials Energy, Electronics and Information- ICETMEEI-2023” organized on the 20th and 21st April 2023 at PSN Institute of Technology and Science, Tirunelveli Tamil Nadu. She took a session on “Multi-Sensor data fusion for autonomous systems” at the conference.

Best  Project  Award at SHRISTI 2023

Anfil Shajo, S6  robotics and automation student  participated in SHRISTI 2023, a National level technical project exhibition and competition organised  by Saintgits College of Engineering on 29th March 2023.

He received Rs 12000 for “Best Robotics Project and the Best Project Among All Streams” and Rs 1 lakh for “Best Innovation Award” for the project “Veeksha”.

The “Best Institution-Ever Rolling Trophy” and the “Best Mentor Award” of Rs. 5000 for Dr. Deepa Elizabeth George (Head of the Department, Department of Electronics) have both been given to Toc H.

At the same competition, Toc H is receiving the Best Robotics Project Award for the second time in a row. The proposal was chosen from among 1400 submissions from 13 Indian states.
